I got a question that has really been botherin me lately. What percentage of the DAT is on Chemistry.

I think of myself as a very good standardized test taker, but I got two C's in my general chemistry so I'm afraid that this will hurt me. I have about a year and a half to study, but I still can't get this fear out of my head.

If there is any advice you guys could give me it would be greatly appreciated.

You should obtain a copy of the sample test they provide. It is on the above link. I believe there are 45 questions. It is all a blur to me now!

I would not worry about your C's. For the DAT, you will have to re-review all the information anyway. You have plenty of time to study!

GPA wise, kick butt on Ochem!

Good luck.

i believe 40 question on bio
30 on G-chem
and 30 on O-chem

then again, it's been a few years since i took it

I took my DAT about a year back. It had 30 gen chem, 30 ochem and 40 bio questions. This is standard. The gen chem is VERY easy. I am sure you will think its a joke when you're there (I thought it was), but the gen chem is on very basic concepts, stoichiometry (sp?), mole fractions, quantum numbers, balancing equations etc. It's everything you've seen before and moreover if you remember your gen chem from lecture you'll do fine. Keep in mind, when you were in class the information was new to you, but now the info is old news, you'll rock it!!

Also buy the Kaplan book, and topscore CD when you're gonna study for the DAT. I think that its very solid. If you get 17+ on topscore in the sciences, you'll do GREAT on the thing.

Don't worry you have time too! Just don't forget everything you've learned!!

i thought gen chem was pretty hard. but nothing beats bio, that was TOUGH.

badaboom,

man i think that ochem was toughest. the bio was alright, the gen chem cake, the math a joke, the verb was FUN and the PAT was nothing like Kaplans or topscores. Man was i disappointed i was getting 27,28, and 30 on topscore PAT.....

PFFT, the DAT chem was really not bad at all. I hate chemistry, and it actually alright. The orgo was very easy! i failed organic my second semester and i still got a 20 on the DAT. I only got a C+ and a B+ in gen chem and i got an 18. I have a flawless bio gpa, and i only got a 20. i think the bio is hard.

Hey, did anyone get a questions on bio that was something like this:

"How is maximum output of blood by the heart measured?"

a) stroke volume/heartbeats per minute
b) stroke volume x heartbeats per minute
c) heatbeats per minute/systolic pressure
ect,etc,etc

i got a real bizzaro question like that. I was also asked about DNA replication techniques using Polymerase Chain Reaction sequences...definitly not in the kaplan book!! AND - i got a bio question that required me to convert moles of blood into parts per million...or something like that. yes, it's all a blur now...

i was hoping that they would ask more bio questions about me (eg. how much do you weigh, when was the last time you stubbed your toe, etc). ehhh, you win some you lose some i suppose?

Don't worry about the Chem. If you get the Kaplan book it tells you what to study.
After doing practice problems, you will know what is necessary for the DATS. The DATs are about main themes, not tiny details.
