I'm just deciding which major i should go for. I know both major can apply for med school but If i don't get accepted... which major will be easier for me to find a better job. or to go grad school..

I know Economics will be easier and get higher GPA than Chem.

Please let me know.

Thanks

Econ can be hard depending on the professor and other classes associated with it. But choose which ever you like. Just don't get scared off in macro and micro Econ- they can suck your life away

I think by grad school you mean med school. In that case it doesn't matter what you major in but if you are planning to work before applying to medical schools, economics might be a better option.

I did a little bit of both the first two years of undergrad and then decided which to choose as a major, most schools give you a while to decide (end of sophomore year I think). I suggest you do the same and focus on getting good grades in your pre-med requirements. Keep an open mind and I'm sure you'll figure it out.

If I were you, I'd choose Economics, but that's just me (Econ > Chem IMO). Like others have stated above, however, it depends on your professors/school (your school could have a difficult econ department and an easy chem department, or vice versa) and which you enjoy more.

i also realize that chem classes come with LAB too

if i major in Eco i don't have to worry about lab right? except for the required classes for med school...

So do you guys think Eco is the better option just in case if i don't make it to med school ??

Thanks again

ECONOMICS FOR SURE.

Unless you like chemistry more, then major in chemistry.

But for getting into grad school, it's MUCH easier to get into a strong biology PhD program than it is to get into a strong econ PhD program. Biological sciences are much more heavily funded than economic sciences at most institutions. Also, you need to have taken many courses in upper division math to even qualify for a PhD in Econ.

See:

Don't you need like upper level stats and calc for classes like econometrics? I'd rather take chemistry but that's just me. Drugs and explosives vs monetary policy and growth cycles.

Understanding how people behave vs understanding how molecules behave.

if you are planning on econ grad school, you need loads of math. at least past diff. equations. also, econ majors have the highest salaries after graduation for liberal arts majors.

But is it true that Economics is Easier than Chem? i'm having second thought because i saw posts about Economics being harder / or same as Chem.

what do you guys think?

It depends. My school offers two degrees in Economics: B.Sc. and B.A. The bachelor of science one is a killer: You need to take Mathematical Microeconomics, Mathematical Economics, Calculus III and other very mathematics-oriented classes. I was planning to go with the BSc degree for a while, so I took a bunch of classes including Math. Microecon. and had to drop it after a week. Needless to say the BA classes were much easier.

hearing from a few chem/biochem majors at my school, pchem/achem was enough to make them wish they chose a different major. just a trivial anecdote.

eggplant vs tofu...

both suck, pick the least suckage👍

i did both. i personally found econ easier because it was more intuitive but i know several premeds who do not agree

Thanks for the answers... Any other input on which major is easier?

The economics major at my current school is super easy, but at the school I previously attended it was called "quantitative economics" and it was essentially an applied math major. Some economics programs are going to be closer to sociology, and others will be very intense. There's not much else to say without knowing what the curriculum at your school is.

ii had the best time ever being a chem major but i really like chem... its all about what you like. i considered the whole economics thing and finance but i would have probably done worse bc its not my passion. dont decide based on what you think will be easier.. do what you are more interested in

It's probably a lot easier to get a job with a chemistry degree than an economics degree, too. You could get a job doing quality control or go on to get a masters or PhD (if it's required) and do industrial or pharmaceutical research.
