CHES Exam

Is anybody sitting for the CHES exam in April or have you already taken the exam?

What books are you using to study?

Is the "Health Education Specialist" 6th Edition by NCHEC, thorough enough to study for the exam alone or should I use other books as well?

Hi, although this is a really late reply, I am sitting for the CHES this Saturday, April 16th. I've mainly just been using the study guide since so much of the information is based on things that I've studied in my courses. I, too, am a little worried that I should have incorporated other data but I felt that my courses prepared me well.

I sat for the exam in 2009. My courses did an excellent job at preparing me, so I simply studied my notes and course books, using the CHES objectives as a guide. I also used electronic material provided free on the website. I did not purchase any books (but I did certainly study, don't get me wrong) and I got a great score. Good luck to all!

Obviously, this is late since you've probably already taken the exam, but for the people who haven't taken it, it might be helpful. CHES wasn't hard, but I definitely don't think it wasn't an easy exam, especially for people who might have been out of the classroom for a while. I found that a lot of the concepts were familiar to me because I have a bunch of books that I happened to go through before the exam and I'm still in school.

I didn't even actually really study for the exam, mostly because I didn't know where to start. I bought the "Competency-Based Framework for Health Ed. Specialists-2010" suggested on the website. Eugh. Didn't help me one bit and I'm annoyed I wasted my $$! I would say your best bet for studying if you've been out the classroom for sometime would be to refresh yourself by going through a few of the books listed as resources for CHES exam prep. Even then, there will probably be some question topics you have never seen. In those cases, eliminate the outlandish answers at least down to 2 choices and guess!!

I definitely agree! It wasn't too hard, but it really wasn't that easy.

Does anyone know when we receive our exam results back? I know that I will have to send them my proof of graduation.

I didn't think the exam was all that difficult. Courses from undergrad (graduated May 2010) seemed to be enough. Of course I don't have results back so I don't know how I did yet.
