What are the differences between typical and atypical chest pain? Thanks for the help!

I think an easy way to think about those two terms is if it's typical, it's basically associated with the heart problem.

When they say it's atypical basically it means it's not associated with the heart but something else is causing the chest pain such as heart burn, which is the pain caused by the acid reflux. I actually had this in the middle of the night and went to the ED b/c I thought I was having a heart attack LOL!

Anyway, here is the link I think summurize the two terms well: http://drsvenkatesan.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/chestpain.png
