I'm a 4th year student on the interview trail and would like to hear any opinions about these programs. I've done searches about these programs and a few threads seem outdated considering how fast things change. It'd be nice to have one thread because I know these are popular programs. Comments on the 'ivy' programs are also appreciated. Here are some of my current thoughts on each program.

Rush
Hours heavy but clinical experience is great
Didactics light

UIC
Lighter side of hours
Better
Lots of 'affiliated' months

Loyola
Pretty intense CBY
Heavy side of hours
great gym

Sinai
PD is a big draw
Family environment, but lots of aggressive personalities
Heavy side of hours, CBY is pretty hrs intensive
Solid moonlighting opportunities

NYU
Tisch, Bellevue, HJD gives pretty solid diversity in practice
Lighter side of hours

Location aside, what do you think of these programs (current med students, residents, attendings...it'd be nice to hear all opinions)

Specifically: critical care experience, number of weekends off on general OR months, EMR used, percentage of staff you would consider malignant, months of CA-3 electives, etc...

Please let's not turn this into a 'in my day we worked 3153 hrs/wk.' I'm just trying to get the information many of us were afraid to ask in front of the PDs. Good luck to all on this grueling trail!

I liked Loyola. Very solid program. Happy residents. Lots of cardiac and regional. Good peds. Light on research- something they want to improve.

I was hoping you could add Cook County to the list. I would love to hear current news.

Rush has a new hospital with brand new facilities.

Cook got a new hospital in around 2002 with new machines (Narcomed 6000) from what I hear. Previous threads gave the impression that Cook has a really good case mix (minus transplants) but lots of foreign attendings, many of whom don't even speak good english. I would love to hear current news about recent updates/upgrades however

All of UIC's CCUs (burn, sicu, and I believe trauma) are anesthesia-run and they seem to put out a good number of CCM fellows. Something to consider if you are interested in CCM.

UIC's Chair was a memorably super, nice guy as a junior attending in the unit at UCSF. Really good guy.
Know nothing else about UIC.
