Are residency spots really "tradeable"? I'm just wondering how you bring this up to your program director. Listen Dr. So-and-so, I'm sorry but I've gotta split, but I do have some wonderful parting gifts for you . . . Joe Schmoe! I'm being sarcastic of course, but I do wonder about this sort of thing. Just so there's no confusion, I'm not looking to trade, sorry, but good luck! (I'm not in either city and I start July)

From what I understand, if a mutually agreeable trade can be arranged between both applicants and both programs, then it's all good.

Having found out today that my fiancee and I will be apart for residency, I thought that I'd see if there's any interest out there for a possible trade. It's just great that you can make sarcastic comments about another's personal dilemma.

Hi spk...you know what, i'm exactly in the opposite situation. I matched in the chicagoland area for ophtho residency and my fiance is in the East coast. He really can't move right now and I want to be close to him for residency. I would love to switch...any way we can talk?
