Does anyone know anything about the GPR programs in the Chicago area. I'm moving back there and am looking at Evanston Hospital, Illinois Masonic, Rush and Northwestern. I don't have any contacts in the area so I'm missing out on the "word of mouth" reputations of each. I have an offer from one but only have 5 days to decide so I feel a little pressured. I am planning to go into General Practice, so I want one with a good all around experience. Obviously I want to learn as much as I can otherwise I'd just go into private practice right away. Please help!

Hi
Best thing is to call/visit the programs and speak to the current residents.

At your school, if no one from your school has gone to Chicago programs, your faculty, especially in yours schools AEGD/GPR may be able to help.

For a one or two year program, you may want to take a wider look, with plans to move back after the advanced training

I would also look into Jesse Brown VA GPR program. This program gives you extensive experience in all fields of dentistry, except for ortho and peds.

Since the patients don't need to pay for dental treatment, the residents can treatment plan all sorts of things, allowing you to get great experience.

I agree with gdental. Jesse Brown is one of those small programs that are often overlooked but it exposes you to a lot of cases you never saw in dental school and prepares you well for private practice. Most of the attendings are prosthodontists so you will learn a lot.
