I was surfing the web yesterday and came across CSU's Pharmacy School webpage (http://www.csu.edu/collegeofpharmacy/) and had minimal information about the program and named a dean, some pre-reqs, and a Disclosure Statement about accredation. I had some questions.

1. How does the accredation process work and will this affect my chances of becoming a student in the school had I been acccepted?

2. Does anyone else have an interest in the program or know any information not on their site about it?

3. This school is kind of a mystery to me. Has anyone been to it? Give me your impressions.

This school seems to be overlooked and I might consider enrolling in their Pharmacy Program. Any replies will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark

All of these will come together in August 2008 with the start of classes at CSU-COP.

almost 2 years until the program is up and running if accredidation goes through

The accreditation process will take a while. Go to the ACPE site, for the most recent progress.

I know only a little about this. I can tell you what I know about the reputation of CSU undergraduate, and what the Illinois Pharmacy rumor mill has said on the matter.
When I went to high school and later UIC undergrad, the general opinion was that CSU was considered to be the worst public University in Illinois. The average ACT is 18. In terms of its undergraduate program, it is not well known.
CSU is physically located on the south side of Chicago. It is right near the 95th/Dan Ryan Red line stop. It's not that big of a school less than 10,000.
This is what the rumor mill has to state on the matter. This is fact, the creation of this school was funded by using money from the Pharmacy state professional fund. This fund has been raided countless times since Blagojevich became governor, and a lot of pharmacists get touchy about this issue. If the raids don't stop, it will go broke in a number of years, but that is a different story.
In "Illinois Pharmacist," an article was printed about the potential opening of CSU COP. Some members of the state board of Pharmacy are worried that CSU will be prejudicial against white and Asian students because of statements CSU has made.
CSU COP as stated will draw heavily from its undergraduate population. Their niche will be minorities. They have not stated anything about hospital partnerships, but they have time.
