I think there are 5 schools in Chicago. Good Luck, it's incredibly saturated. You may want to focus on the surrounding area instead of in the city.
Suburbs are saturated too...try maybe WI
No one can say for sure because we don't know your experience, connections, etc... what type of job are you looking for? Hospital - almost impossible without residency, retail - maybe if you have an in already..
Chicago already has a ton of graduates and more coming to the market soon...MWU - 200, UIC - 150ish, plus Rockford another 50ish, Chicago State - 75ish...plus RFU and Roosevelt in 2 yrs will each add another 75 grads (with plans to expand the class size). Granted not all want to stay in Chicago, but many students from the area also go to surrounding schools like Iowa, Butler, Purdue, etc... so it probably evens out in the end to about the same.

I will have one year of independent pharmacy experience and two years of hospital experience at a top 10 national hospital with strong high level references.

That and personally knowing someone who is hiring will get you a job. Market is saturated and it is only getting worse.
Right, but do you know someone at a Chicago hospital? Are you planning on doing residency?

Do not know anybody. Could possibly do an APPE at a downtown hospital, another at a regular Wags/CVS, and possibly one at the Wags offices in Deerfield. Do not plan on hospital residency. Would consider the Wags community residency on the assumption there would be a job afterwards in Chicago, but know little of the program or its competitiveness. Thanks
I think if you did the Walgreens residency, you would have a good shot at getting a job in Chicago after that since the headquarters are there. You would likely make good connections and they would want to keep you if you did a good job. I don't know much about the specific program, so I can't help you there.

I live 3 hours away from Chicago, and for awhile we had a PRN pharmacist driving that far to work the occasional 1 day shift. Imagine, a 6 hour drive to work 8 hours.
But since you have a couple of years to plan ahead....how far away are you from Chicago? If possible, get involved with the local pharmacy groups there, as others have said networking is your best friend. Do you have any former classmates who live in Chicago? Keep in touch with them. Get a job in a chain that has locations in Chicago. Do CE or an extension class through one of the original COP's, get on friendly terms with the professors.
