Chief Resident?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why do you think someone might want to be Chief Resident?

I mean besides the money, power and chicks of course.

Coke? Is it all the coke?

In order of importance;

The yeyo....
the bit***s
the fame
the glory
couldnt get in to a fellowship and am desperately trying to avoid that horrendous hospitalist(or primary care) gig and so took position of chief resident as a final act of desperation.....

Why would someone want to be chief resident?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the interns.

Being a chief is semi-prestigious in the worlds of IM, peds, family medicine because you get "selected" from a larger group of people.

For the surgical world, there is no prestige because everybody in their last year is a "chief"

For the primary care residencies, good reasons to be a chief are to get an advantage to joining the university as a faculty member, having an extra year to do research, strengthen up a fellowship application, etc
