Hi all,

I am in the process of applying to peds cardiac anesthesia and received offers from both Boston and CHOP and wanted to see if anybody had insight on these two programs?

Unfortunately no one in my network has trained at these sites.

Thanks!
You received offers from CHOP and Boston peds cardiac. You are asking advice on an anonymous internet forum. This is your third post.

I would never do that to myself and not many others would either. But if somebody likes that sort of thing, they are predicting a crisis level shortage of pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists so it is likely a good career move.

I very much enjoyed my time at BCH—diverse attendings who did a great job of balancing mentorship/education and expectation of fellows commensurate with training year. I am sure that CHOP is great, too so would weigh in heavily where you might prefer living for the year. Boston is my favorite city so that was a no-brainer.

During my residency, we had peds cardiac attendings who trained at BCH and CHOP. I know a few residents who went into peds cardiac at each institution. They all said great things about their own institution and they mostly stayed there as an attending after. I think it comes down to your preference for location. Of note, one of my coresidents at CHOP told me awhile ago that they are either building a new institution or expanding. Not sure how it will affect your training time at CHOP though. Both excellent places to train.

Building a building/expanding means longer hours for the peons as they hire more proceduralists and surgeons so that they are ready to go
