Is a chiropractor a physican or a quack? Three choices:
A chiropractor is a:

1. A PHYSICIAN who is versed in the power of LOVE, in the therapy to maintain SPINAL HYGIENE and harneses the LIFE FORCE.

2. A QUACK a two-bit hustler, who's unscientific manipulations
border on assault and battery.

3. Reasonable person who couldn't get into medical school yet still desires the money (e.g. insurance scams) and
the prestige of the "PHYSICIAN" title.

looks like the anti-chiro sentiment on this board is high...

Someone else has already pointed this out, but I'd like to reiterate.

To the original poster: Do you not think the wording of your polls is a little extreme on both ends? You really leave members of this community little choice in your polls when you ask us if, in effect, chiropractors are magical people with special powers to heal the sick and crippled or if they are "hustlers," and two-bit "quacks."

There are some on this board who are chiropractic-friendly and those who are chiropractic hate-mongerers. The point is I would change the wording of your polls to reflect a more moderate temperament.

If not, you are only encouraging a lot of anti-chiropractic sentiment on SDN should a chiropractic forum ever be established.

Jesus, why all this Chiro hate-mongering lately? You people have such fragile egos, you need to put another profession down? Chiros do a hell of a better job than your typical MD in treating back pain, which is the third most common medical complaint in the US.

Now, I do not agree with DCs becoming primary care providers, but I certainly support their non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical approach to the treatment of spinal problems. And do not give me any of that crap about "rampant" vertebral artery dissection from chiropractic manipulation. I know it occurs, but just keep in mind that thousands of people have lost their lives from MD/DOs using chronic NSAIDS to improperly treat low back pain. Perferated ulcer, anyone? Thank god this has been corrected.

At least you should understand that many (not all) of the back pain patients you treat in the future *will* seek Chiro treatment and many *will* be cured/significantly helped by the DC, where your treatments failed. Vice versa.

No, I am not a DC. I am a physician in Chicago.

those who voted for quack are idiots. i am an MS1 on MD track and i was experiencing chronic lower back pain for 2 months. immediately during christmas break, i seeked a chiropractor. i figured western medicine 1) costs too much for my problem 2) didnt think taking a drug will help this local pain 3) didnt want the physician to lure me into surgery.

magically, the chiropractor healed me. my cousin had the same problem a few months back. he asked me to take an xray, which showed no fractures. he diagnosed me with an infection in my back. then he gave me western medicine, plus he did some manipulations to open up my arteries so that more blood will have access to ridding the infection. two weeks of seeing him daily, i healed completely (so did my cousin).

there are times western medicine is better (ie carcinoma). there are times chiropractic or acupuncture are better. there are times other alternative medicine is better. there are times a combination or all will be the best. if you want to be good physicians, you should be more opened about different ways a medical problem can be solved. i'd be a more relieved patient to know my doctor is knowledgeable about other types of medicine and can refer me to alternative medical doctor if it can help.

i'd also like to add that i am not sure whether i saw a chiropractor or not. all i know is i am chinese and i saw some guy "in" china (christmas vacation) who did physical manipulations on me. i am not sure if he would be considered a chiropractor or not, but bottom line is, that stuff works.
