choosing a DO school (3 way split)

If you're trying to land a "competitive" residency or ACGME residency, your DO school has almost nothing to do with this. You can separate yourself with board scores, away rotations, LORs, and comparable research with MD candidates.

99% of the population outside of maybe Chicago has never heard of CCOM. You're going to be making it on your individual merit not what your school name and brand is doing for you. The perceived prestige of CCOM will only matter if you want to train/practice in that immediate area.

If you want a residency or job in areas far from either school - New England, NY, TX, West Coast, FL for example - no one will have heard of either school and it will be your personal accomplishments only.

I agree with this statement. People are getting way too SDN on here. No one cares where you go just how you perform as an individual. Go to the school that allows you to perform your best while you're at your happiest. And if so may state my opinion, the OP seems to think they'll be happier at VCOM.

although there's truth to that statement, you have to also take into consideration that the longer a school has been around, the more alumni it has graduated. this can help a lot when trying to secure a residency spot or a job, if that hospital already has a person from your school working there.

it probably shouldn't be "the" deciding factor, but i still think it's important.

Ill give you that - it's definitely a factor to be considered. Personally, CCOM is my too choice so I'd personally choose it - just seems that the OP wants different.

Again... Residents and medical students have said this is not true. Pedigree and alumni base matters.

Yes. They do. But to a future rural medicine doctor is the difference in money really worth it? That's clearly the dilemma people are arguing over.

And if he decides he wants to do a combined residency to maximize his potential for rural medicine? Or what if he changes his mind somewhere in between?
Sorry, but working rural makes decent money and he'll have his loans forgiven in 10 years of working in a disadvantaged area anyway.
 
I think regional bias is underrated.

Residents and docs i spoke to at one of the high tier universities in NorCal thought touro-ca was the top DO program in the country.

My whole point was that, for some people, your reasons aren't their main reason. Money is a major factor in some people's decisions. I was bringing that to light.

Fair enough, but lets also add the lovely little reality that most people change their minds 3+ times on average in med school. So their reason may change very quickly.

CCOM is solid, you can't beat the rotation (that is why it is more expensive), and what's so wrong to spend 3-4 years in Chicago? It is nice to be in a different city when you are young. You can always match back to Cali, with CCOM I am sure you can go anywhere you want.
 
This school really gave me a good idea of a "GUESS THAT DO SCHOOL!" sort of game.

Lecom? Just guessing, don't know any mascots. Except the mascot at the hospital from scrubs, Mr. Prick the hypodermic needle.
 
I will give another hint. It has been established sometime in the last 10 years, and it has an undergraduate school connected to it.

DMU? I'm just guessing because it's in the city of Des Moines, and Iowa is known for corn fields.
