Whether you've recently applied for jobs or look at candidates: what do people think is important. I've been on a lot of interviews and some of the 'big names' I thought were just OK. Some smaller residencies I've been to do about 4x as many cases (regional, heart etc.) and I imagine they're more comfortable/efficient. I know the bigger places say they deal with the sickest, but basically any mildly large city has enough sick people.

Will going to a big name really give me better job opportunities even though they are severely deficient in something like trauma/regional or any of the other basic skills that make up the ABA requirement? Will going to a smaller or lesser known place give me equal footing? Is it more about who can pick up a phone for you?

Your interpersonal skills, the ability to be flexible, honing your ability to stay calm, and maintaining an open mind to new ways of doing things will take you farther in this profession than anything else regardless of whether you are a med student applying to a residency program or a resident applying for a private practice position.

Groups will look for your ability to ignore the inherent unfairness of their lengthy partnership tracts and for your ability to quietly ignore the fact that the partners are leaving before noon while you work 12-14 hour days.

Also the fact they are making 3x your salary, you need to ignore that. Also you will be doing ASA IV AAAs while they do eyeballs.
