Just another reason for people to do the HPSP...the Navy is going to be paying HPSP students 45 days of active duty pay. This comes out to 5000-6000 dollars before taxes, a pretty sweet deal for just following "School Orders" and going to school. Yeehaw!

I'm pretty sure that's for all 3 branches (AF, Army, Navy)...

you don't get stipend while on active dutythough. if i am not mistaken, stipend and this bonus pay total 25K a year while in school starting 08.

Your active duty time is usually in the summer, not around Christmas, but if your shcool gives you time off in the summer, you have to go to an Army base for those 6 weeks. It's not bad, I didn't get to do it, but you go and observe or help out at a clinic. Another option is doing your OBC during that time.

Yes I think it is intended for the student to go and help out at a clinic of their respective branch of service yet since Nova CDM is year 'round, like most dental schools, so they simply are paying me for "School Orders". They have stated that we may apply for this once each year (b/w October to the next September of each year).
There is no stipend, that is correct. However, the deal still is VERY nice.

from what i heard, you don't have to do anything to get the bonus. just let them know that you will be studying for the board for the 6 week period.

Nope. You don't even have to do that. I took my boards over the summer and then they emailed me with this. It is an annual thing and if your school goes year 'round, you are simply entitled to the benefits.

So how does this Christmas bonus work? I haven't heard anything about it. Are all Navy HPSP students going to receive this (signed in October, everything is going smoothly)? When will it be distributed?

And how do summers work? It was my understanding that you do not receive a stiped during the summer, but you receive officer pay. Ideally, you would either do your OIS or report to a base, but I think a lot of us have school obligations.
