Cinci vs Indy

Help. I really need to cut one of these programs. Which one should I cut. Both fly and have good EMS, both in sub-optimal locations. 3 vs 4 year seems to be the only major deciding factor.?! help.

Cut Cincinnati. 3 vs 4. I've heard lots more good about Indy than Cinti.

Indianapolis is not a bad place to live. I lived there for 6 years. Relatively safe, cheap housing, decent weather (significantly better than Chicago weather).

Also the two Level 1 trauma centers are within 10 minutes of each other.

in terms of places to live i would say cincy and indy are roughly equivalent. i grew up in a nicer part of the world and have been in the midwest the past several years...pros and cons for both are +enough stuff to do and low cost of living -sex appeal and beach/mountain/weather.

in terms of what seperates the two programs i think 3 vs 4 is a good divider, but the main difference in my eyes is that cincy is a direct pipeline into an academic career. of course indy can easily get you there, but if your career goals are likely academic, cincy is possibly the best in the country at preparing residents for that life. both programs are big and lack any obvious gaps in the curriculum, both have prominent faculty, and both have heavy pre-hospital components. another difference is probably personality, where cincy tends to have a rep for a certain degree of arrogance and indy a certain degree of militarism. (obviously this is just what i've heard, but these opinions are reflective of what i've been told by faculty who did residency at these spots)

bottom line is both places are stellar and you can't go wrong.

Cincinnati is a crappy city to live in...I mean, who wants to live in freaking OH! Especially for 4 years!

Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Denver, Indy, New York, Atlanta, Tampa, Nashville, Jacksonville, Washington DC, Baltimore, Chapel Hill, Charlotte...those are places to live!

Plus there is absolutely nothing to do in Cinci except dig your car out of the snow in the winters, and hope you don't get mugged. Even crew put it correctly...it's a "sub-opitmal" location
