Those of you attending University of Cincinnati or living around the area, can you recommend some good, safe apartments not too far from the college of medicine? I am relocating from Atlanta, and I am very nervous because I have heard some terrible news about living close to the campus. How is the transportation in the area? I am thinking about coming without my car, so any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

Cincinnati around the hospital is pretty dangerous, people get mugged all the time. In fact there was recently a hold up in the Eden garage (where they tell you top park for interviews ) in broad daylight, at 7 pm. I'd say you definitely need a car, i wouldn't walk around campus by myself at night. Good luck and stay safe.

So there are Stetson apartments right across the streets from the medical school that are really nice (and expensive) but should be quite safe relative to the rest of the immediate area. There are some other apartments (Bellevue, etc) in the area that I don't really know much about. I live in the area by the medical school in a house, and while it is not terribly nice, I don't feel unsafe often (that said I don't do much walking around outside late at night).

Outside of the immediate area there is the Gaslight district NW of the medical campus you could look at, as well as Hyde Park to the East (definitely driving distance).

If you could be a little more specific about how far is "not too far" and whether or not you are looking for a house/apt or just an apartment I might be able to give better advice.

Just ask if you have any more questions, also there are at least a few other people from UC on here, hopefully they can chime in with more information.

EDIT: Just saw you were coming without a car, in that case look for houses near campus, along with apartments like Stetson

Meh I wouldn't really call it a hold up, more of a purse-snatching attempt, and it was at 8pm, which is getting pretty close to darkness this time of year.

That said, yes it is not the best area and you need to be aware, walk in groups, don't go out too late, etc. I just don't want people to think its all bad here. We aren't Baltimore or Detroit.

FWIW I have a car but still walk to class, walk to the gym, etc
