I'm trying to make a decision on where I want to be this coming Fall. I've been fortunate enough to get into 2 programs I really like. Both schools are P/F and have a traditional curriculum. For some background: I'm thinking of going into some sort of surgical subspecialty (Ortho, Uro, ENT) so a little more debt wouldn't be the end of the world. For what it's worth I'm also on the WL at Cornell and would go there in a heartbeat.
Cincinnati
Pros:
- In state tuition (COA ~50-55k/yr)
- Got a great vibe from students and administration on my interview day
- Low cost of Living
- New and really nice facilities
- High average step 1 scores
Cons
- Cincinnati is a small city and I would prefer a larger city
- Not all that crazy about the hospitals (besides the Children's hospital but i'm not interested in Peds)
- Most of their students match in Ohio/ Midwest
Boston University:
Pros:
- Boston seems like a great place to live
- Would like to be on the East Coast (friends and family are there)
- Marginally better match list, with many more east coast matches than Cincinnati, I would like do residency on the East coast as well
- Loved the Boston Medical Center & the idea of starting my medical education at a safety net hospital
- Feel as if the connections I could make here could help my career more as I'm shooting for competitive specialties
Cons:
- Higher cost of attendance (~80k+ yr)
- Not located in the nicest part of Boston
- Didn't get as good of a vibe from the students here
