I would appreciate some advice concerning this issue of citing references in the research experience essay (MD/PhD). I tried but the AMCAS application doesn't even allow superscripts......can i just not cite any references then?
Thanks

I had the same problem. And stated the published data as "It is well established that .... " etc. I know it is a pain in the a$$ when you have to change 20 of them. 🙂

You could include parentheses in the text like (1), (2), etc. Then at the end bibliography you can number the references in the order that they appear in the text. This should be acceptable...many journal articles involve reference citations in this fashion.

I haven't cited any references... is that really necessary? I'm writing my essay in the fashion of "Under the guidance of Professor X in the X Dept. of Institute X, I conducted research on X, with a focus of X. I was able to acquire A, B, and C skills and presented my findings at X.

I figure, if they want my results in detail, they can read my thesis.

How are other people going about writing the research essay?

I gave a short intro on why my research is important to the scientific/medical communities (i do organic synthesis, mainly polyacetylenes that have biological activity), and then went into the details of my projects. I emphasized that my research is independent and I have taken "intellectual control" of it, like coming up with the idea for the project i am currently doing and solving problems that have come up. Then, I concluded with why my research is important for me. Thats about it.

Oh yeah, I didn't cite any references

I did the same. NO references cited on my essay either.
