I just called to find out what in the world is going on with my orders since its starting to get close to June and here's what they said.

Basically, the civilian people are taking longer to process than the prior service people. While this isn't too much of a surprise, what is surprising is that I satisfied the conditions of my conditional acceptance weeks ago and they are just now sending out my unconditional acceptance. I didn't realise it would take WEEKS just to get one office on the same campus to talk to the other. I have been apprised that this is systemic of the military and that I can learn to live with it or be frustrated forever.

In any case, for all you civilian people out there that still haven't gotten orders, they have assured me that if you are unconditional, you WILL receive orders and you WILL be signed up for your respective officer training programs. I was under the impression that nothing was 'set in stone' until you got orders and that they could still somehow not schedule you in, but they assured me that unless I change my mind about things, the process is in motion and that I will be fine.

I'm getting ready to drop all my other acceptances, so I wanted to be sure about it.

Welcome to the military, dude. Satellite communications half a world a way: no problem. Talking to the office next door: no dice.... :meanie:

I think in California, the expression is gender-nonspecific, but my appologies if I've offended....... 🙂

now if i could just get those orders...

Teach me some more Cali talk. It's like a whole 'nother world. There's gender-neutral "dude". What about "hella"? What does that mean?! 😕

No, I'm not offended, I'm just teasing my girl, Yo 😀

Beats me, I'm just a masshole.... 😛 I can barely understand my california friends. I just know they like to use "dude" alot, and it has nothing to do with the person's gender..... 😀

As my friends and I would say in high school ... that's hella tight (or "hella tightness").

It's used all the time in Northern CA (AKA NorCal), especially around the Bay Area. "Hella" originated from the streets of San Francisco ("Frisco"). People from SoCal (Southern CA) look at us all weird when we use it (SoCal and NorCal are like two completely different places). Hell, when I use that word around where I am at right now (Richmond, VA), people look at me weird and say "Oh, she's from California" as their explanation.

After four years in Virginia, I still do not understand the obsession with CA that people outside CA have. I guess as a Californian I will never understand that.

hella: a hell of alot
tight: kick ass
dude: this one's a little tricky. it means literally, guy, but it also means any variation of 'hey, you', 'oh man', 'hey', and 'damn'. Its all about context.

Yes, NoCal and SoCal do seem like different places. To me, NoCal seems like a fairly friendly and welcoming place. I wasn't as impressed with SoCal

Obsession? Well, a lot of the US population is there and a lot of our culture comes from there. TV and movies come from there and NY, mostly.

NoCal? 😱 It's NorCal. People from SoCal call it NoCal to emphasize that Northern CA is not really "California". 😡

As for SoCal itself, I don't care much for it. One time, my high school senior class were on a charter bus on our way to Disneyland for Grad Night. At one point in the freeways of L.A., I noticed that we were slowly going past a train. Inside were two Mexican thugs (aka "chollos"), flipping us off for no apparent reason (they probably thought that it was tight). When the back of our bus saw that, they went hella crazy. Our reasoning for those guys? "What do you expect? It's typical SoCal."

Waz up...dudes....I'm from SoCal.... 😱 Hey it's great down here....The weather's sweet, the chics are super hot... Ya so sometimes it's smoggy, but hey..it makes the air smell that much sweeter.. 😀 The freeways are great too....sure they are crowded, but that gives you the chance to get flipped off by a fellow motorist....and what is life without that experience.

Congrats to everyone accepted into USUHS, and good luck for those on the waitlist!!!

Hey Masshole, I live in Mass also. In terms of orders and such:
I just kept calling and emailing all the parties involved in my unconditional acceptance and order writing, and I just recieved a fowarded email of my orders from the Navy point of contact today...~3 weeks after my unconditional acceptance.

I'm not a masshole, but have been stuck in the Boston area for about 2 months on emergency leave waiting for a compassionate reassignment from Germany (where I'm stationed) to DC (where my son can continue treatement and I can get ready for August 8th).

You think it's bad trying to get one set of orders...working on 3 at one time: Getting released from active duty to start school (they can't enroll you at USUHS unless you resign your commission and/or ETS so they can recomission you), changing my duty station as quickly as possible so I can help my son get better, and the orders to START MEDICAL SCHOOL so I can commit the rest of my life to the organization that makes me nuts some times. Funny thing is, I love this stuff, been at it for 13 years. I could do without the stress, but love to laugh at our misery.

Oh yeah.....Why do you pronounce Worcester "Woo-sta" and Dorchester "Dor-chest-a"? I'm from Phoenix, where we imitate SoCal badly, and we have no accent aside from spanglish.

I'm just curious if any of you that have gotten your orders have set up to be moved yet. I am correct in understanding that you cannot contact the moving offices until you have orders in hand, right? Anyway, my wife and I are just trying to figure out the next couple of weeks/months. She has the opportunity to start work in MD while I'm at OBC and I'm wondering if anyone can give me any info on if it is even possible to get moved out that fast/this early. We'd be looking to move at the end of this month/beginning of next if we can. Who do I need to hound to find out about my orders? Thanks for the help folks.

JOE

When you received your unconditional acceptance letter did you get your packet from Ms. Taylor at the same time (I think it had Oath of Office info in it)? Or did you receive your unconditional letter first? I have not gotten this packet yet and I just spoke with Cpt. Glenn at USUHS and said that she didn't see my name on a certain list and is looking into some things for me. I wonder if it has anything to do with me switching waitlists. The sense that I got is that orders won't even be cut until I fill out this paperwork for Ms. Taylor and that I probably won't even get them until early June - man that's cutting it close. So much for moving out there in June. 🙁 Oh well, take it as it comes.

Basically, you can't set up anything with respect to moving unless you have orders. I tried to at least get an idea of how long I'd have to wait and around what time I can reasonably expect that they're scheduling, and they won't even say anything because I don't have orders. BLEH!!!

Who is Cpt. Glenn at USUHS?

I'm not quite sure. I called the Student Affairs office to ask some questions regarding commisioning and she was the person that they put me in touch with. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow. I also sent an email to Louise Taylor to see if she has any info for me.

I finally got some answers. I called the Navy point of contact and he said that he has barely gotten my name from USUHS this week and is processing my orders. He tells me that they should be available sometime this week.

Meanwhile, I've discovered that the commissioning process and the orders are two separate entities. The orders come from the branch itself, but the commissioning paperwork comes from USUHS in the Military Personnel office. You have to talk to Mr. Mitchell about it because the commissioning paperwork sometimes comes before the orders, but sometimes it doesn't (at least its not going to in my case). From what I've been told, you have to take the oath of office and be sworn in and all that jazz at least 10 days before OIS begins, which is exactly what they've planned to do for me.

Orders received today. 👍 😀
