I just wanted to make sure that I am understanding this correctly. The bones of the skeletal system are derived from the mesoderm layer but the bones of the skull are from the ectoderm layer via the neural crest?

The jaws/teeth and most of the bones of the face are derived from the ectoderm via the neural crest. But the skull is generally considered to be derived from both the ectoderm and mesoderm layers, depending on the part, so it's a little complicated.

The rest of the bones of the skeleton are mesoderm derived.
