I'm still trying to figure all this out so please bear with my newness. For what it's worth I've dug through these boards and there are still some thing I don't understand. I'm considering the Army HPSP.

From MODS:

SAUSHEC Diagnostic Radiology (SDR) is a 5-year residency program, including 1 year of internship. Yearly, SDR accepts 10 residents, 5 Army and 5 AF applicants, depending on future needs of those services. Several positions are reserved for pre-selected applicants from the 4th year of medical school. Other positions are reserved for active duty applicants.

So what does that mean by "reserved for pre-selected applicants from the 4th year of medical school." I'm still having a hard time figuring out how the military match works. Do you match a PGY-1 and then the following year match again for a residency or do you do it all together or does it depend on the program? Please clarify this for still uncommitted student.

"Reserved for pre-selected applicants from 4th year of medical school" means that you match as an MS4, much like the civilian match. For most residencies in the Army, you match for your PGY-2+ program at the same time as your PGY-1 program. As in, you don't do an internship, then reapply for the match. When you're an MS4, you'll find out what's going to happen to you (PGY-1 then GMO, or full residency).
