clarification with pelvic vs transvaginal us

so pelvic us are done to evaluate structures: cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries. transvaginal is used to view the lining of the uterus and the ovaries. if i have a patient that comes in with vaginal bleeding, i should do both pelvis and transvaginal correct? because transvaginal would allow me to see things like fibroids/polyps. or is transvaginal used more for pregnant patients?

Pelvic describes the anatomic region you are evaluating. Transvaginal describes the route/ mode of the exam. You can do a pelvic ultrasound transabdominally also.

but i see orders for both a pelvic us and a transvaginal us?

So choose both I guess. If it's electronic ordering, pick the TV ultrasound.
