I heard there are two types of med schools in terms of classes: the 8-12 and 9-5. Is this true? And do they mean that you're actually in classes for 8 hours or is part of that labs?

What are the typical class days like?

I'm sure that most schools fall into one of those categories, but understand there's a ton of stuff in between.

MCW is one of the more extensive schools in terms of class time. MWF we're in class from 8:20 to 3:00, and then lab lasts until 5 or whenever you want to leave. TTh we're in classes from 8:20 to 12:00, and then have various clinical stuff or short small groups.

The only thing that's required though is the clinical stuff, which is at most four hours a week.

yeah, its not always so cut and dry with every school. I guess my school would be considered an 8-12 school, even though some days we have labs and clinical stuff that lasts until 5, while other days we only have two hours of class. Still, some schools do make it a point to give students certain days or afternoons off, so you should definitely look into each school's curriculum and scheduling

Mayo is pretty traditional...M,W 8-5, Tu,Thu, Fri 8-11 *but* many times we have gross lecture/lab on Tue, Thu making that day 8-5...
