Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you guys are all lucky, I do 8:30-noon + 1-3 on Mon, Tue, and Thu. The schedule for Wed + Fri is 8:30-12... Starting this week, I also do one or two nights per week, 5-7pm.

sometimes studying biochemistry makes me wish I were not in medical school... good thing a lot of the other classes at least seem worthwhile. F*** everyone who ever named an enzyme with a 14" replica of a dimerized receptor tyrosine kinase.

Nights😱. What do they make you do at night?

I'm hoping the second year material is cooler.

how actin is cross linked in microvilli puts me to sleep.😴

I heard wash u second year is even more killer, lol. Once the pass/fail goes away. First year sounds super chill though.

There are these things called selectives (basically "electives") where you can pick a couple things you want to study/do in small groups. We are required to pick 4 the first year. They are generally from 3-5 or 5-7 on a weekly basis, but they each only happen on ~ 4-5 weeks out of the semester... Extra work is 👎, but the topics I picked seem really interesting.

First year might be super chill in retrospect, but I don't think it's fair for me to pass judgment at this point so early as an MS1. I mean, I haven't had any exams yet, and I'm sure that they could fail everybody if they wanted to by making the tests long/difficult enough. Pass/Fail doesn't mean easy pass... right?

Second year will mean more pressure for sure, but it will be a very personal thing. As everyone can theoretically Honor a given course (there is no curve), then I don't think the atmosphere will be too competitive. That's the impression that I get from the current 2nd years anyway, and they just had a pharmacology exam.

Ah, we have those but they're optional. I might do one if there's something really cool (they haven't got us the list of them yet).

Time for a break. I just went through a bunch of histo slides and questions= brain about to explode.
I just got home from a night of drinking and late night food....stomachs about to explode!

Be jealous...BAM

Riceman's at it again. Got about 2/3 of it this time.

After a little chillax time this weekend, the rest of today is going to be filled with studying/catching up. embryo can go to hell. i wish we didn't have two full lectures of gross anatomy devoted to it 👎

So, does 2013 seem further away than ever now that classes have started?

You and Rice both.

hahahahahaha...classes start tomorrow so I am done for a while

I am getting ready to go chill with a friend and then get myself ready for the week

yayyyyyyyyyyyy! :scared:

If I hear the word "phosphorylate" one more time I'm going to throw up through my nose.

BLAH.

I don't know that I can hold any more info. I always feel guilty when my studying "peaks" early.

I'll be ticked if I miss stuff on the test that I feel like "if I just would've looked at that one more time"

But, alas, I have a hand dissection at three pm.

The hand, apparently, is the worst dissection of this block.

FML.

Probably has something to do with the fact that it's a three day dissection. AND our first Gross test is Monday.

So yeah, I'm moving into the lab as of about 11 AM tomorrow.

My brain is saturated. It's dripping biochemistry and genetics onto the floor.

God help me keep it contained for 14 hours.
Its not saturated.

Dont worry, youll be fine. Take a break and then go at it in a little bit.

I love our embryo class. A) I would  and B) it's self-directed and separate from gross. they just test on the same day, which sort of sucks.

I'm so not thrilled about the genetics portion of this test block.

Kinda hard to make yourself study for something that counts 1.4% of your final yearly average.

Especially when the prof is obviously smarter than everyone in the class combined, knows this, and tells us all that he wouldn't fail us for 1.4%.

Last year, someone got a 28 on this test. Five questions correct. It was curved to a 70.

But he did tell her a monkey could've done better.

I would like to score slightly higher

Most hilarious professor ever. He's got that dry sense of humor and just throws comments out there during lecture.

One time, someone asked about us memorizing the details of something.

He said, and I quote "Details are important. If you don't want to learn the details, go flip burgers."

Wow.

I don't know why anyone ever asks that question. The answer is allways yes.

Hey Chubbs...have you met Christin Gethers? She's a second year! Tell her I said what's up...she did a postbacc at Penn

OK you guys might kill me, but do you think it is too early to buy First Aid for Step I (2009 ed.) and start going through it? I know it sounds crazy, but I think WashU has a relatively low Step I average for two reasons: (1) the curriculum isn't geared toward the test (2) there isn't much time allotted for preparation.

I know that a lot of it would be gibberish at this point, but I'm thinking that it might help me to keep tabs on what will be important in Summer 2011... (gotta be ready, I'm thinking Rads-- I know, I know...)

We had a prof recommend we get it and glance it over. Not sure how helpful it will be, but I don't see a problem with getting it.

I bought it off of an M3...havent really looked at it much though. I might use it as a last minute review before my next test next week.

PS: if you are buying it now just as preparation for the boards, i think thats kind of stupid. Maybe buying some other review books for the subjects you are studying right now would be better.
1) it might help to tie up any lose ends you have after reviewing your lectures.
2) youll atleast be used to the style when it does come time to review for step 1

Dude...I already purchased that and the kaplan book to study along with the courses
