Oh yeah, I totally forgot to give my audition report (sorry in advance for the super long post)!
I think it went really well. I sang "All I Need is the Girl" from
Gypsy, which is my typical audition song for any show pre-1960's... there were 4 other guys there singing that song as well, which is fine, it just means that I have to be the one that does it the best.
😉 Anyway, the pianist was actually my drama teacher from when I was a kid, so it was kinda cool to see him again (and he's the music director which is good since I know someone who'll be making decisions) - he actually taught me the song that I used for the audition so that was cool. Anyway, I sang my 32 bars and did pretty well, and then the assistant choreographer was like "awwww, I just want to give you a hug!" and I said, "Ok!" and gave her a hug, which was kinda awkward. I'm guessing my delivery of the song was spot on since the lyrics talk about how I have all my fancy clothes and the "time and the place" but no girl to go with them, and I made her feel sorry for me not having a girl.
They asked me to stay and dance, and they wanted us to tap but not in tap shoes (!) because it would have been too loud (the auditions were held in a very small theatre space). That was weird, but I did fine... none of the other guys there were tappers so I definitely had a leg up on them. All in all I think it went pretty well - callbacks will probably be this week or next week, but casting decisions probably won't be announced until March (they're super slow at casting - and rehearsals for this show don't start until May 18th).
Oh yeah, I also asked about the run of the show, and it's definitely going to be ending on August 9, so that shouldn't be a problem!
