Random thought/question: what do you guys get more often, good dreams or nightmares about med school/admissions/MCAT?

I, sadly, never seem to remember my dreams 🙁 I think this largely has to do with my poor sleep schedule (I probably averaged 5 hrs or less last semester) and hopefully I'll get to remember some dreams this semester 🙂

I'm with you there spurs...i rarely ever remember dreams. I dont have a poor sleep schedule, i just dont remember them. Not really sure why.

Anybody watch house tonight? I thought it was pretty good. I Started watchin 24 but then got kicked off teh television... sad.

When I was studying for the MCAT I would get what I considered to be nightmares...generally involving me sitting down to a test thinking I knew everything and then looking at the test and realizing that I knew absolutely nothing and did not even know what the questions were asking.

I have yet to get a dream about actually being in medical school though. Hopefully when I do they will be good dreams.

Haha nice avatar. How did you make it?

Ohh yeah! I forgot about the MCAT dreams. Those sucked!

Is anybody here from southern California that can tell me where to live if I go to USC? I am looking for a place that would be fairly cheap for the area and will give me quick (15 minutes or less) access to the school (the less traffic I run into the better obviously)

Funny you should mention that. Last night I had some crazy nightmares about med school, and this was the night that happened.

I had to go back to a school for a second interview...but I showed up without my suit, wearing random casual school clothes!! So i had to somehow get back home super fast in time to change and get back. When I finally got home I was exhausted so I took a nap and woke up way sometime really late in the afternoon. Needless to say I rushed back to the school and was walking around in the admissions office when some adcom lady found me and chewed me out. I saw my acceptance letter on some desk...They were gonna offer me an acceptance that day but since I showed how unreliable I was by skipping out and showing up way late, they were rescinding it. It was the first of two nightmares involving med schools for me last night 🙁

So what are we all up to tonight? I just came back from basketball, CRB. And I was playing so freaking good! It was a good day.

Nice!!! I played well yesterday but didn't go today because the gym closed early for the holiday. Are you a slasher? jump shooter? both??

You can live in eagle rock, or glendale, or pasadena. I just listed from least expesnive to most expesnive (by accident). Housing isnt going to be cheap no matter where you are in socal tho, so you might wanna just live in the nicer areas.

Now that I have a solid acceptance and interviews to come, I feel like I can post here 🙂

House tonight was awesome! Sparked some new stuff for the next few episodes as well that could get interesting..

Not sure how I felt about the last Office though....weird ending.

Both...but I'm short. So I have a hard time driving when we're playing with big guys.

Hello Im from Socal ... if you're going to be going to USC best case scenario you might want to just live on campus... LA traffic is pretty terrible. If you have the dough to dish out Santa Monica is pretty nice , traffic wise not too terrible and probably 10-15 mins from USC health science campus; Inglewood is about 15-20 mins and pretty affordable (Santa Monica is way more expensive) but its kind of ghetto (east LA is like that), or Pasadena is a nice suburban type area thats not too expensive but its about 20-25 mins.... hope that helps

Thanks Ryserr

no problem. i live in the eagle rock/glendale area and i used to volunteer at the USC county hospital. It was like 8 miles away, and in the mornings with heavy traffic it would take me about 15 minutes to get there. I bet you could even find a way to get there via side streets, but i never took the time to.

Both...but I'm short. So I have a hard time driving when we're playing with big guys.
I dont understand, you should be able to get around the big guys easier if you're short and quick??...if you get stuck, just pump fake..big guys go for anything, I would know😉

 Yeah...I get away with that sometimes. But for example, when I get the rebound, there's no way I can go up with it. They just put their hands over my head and I'm screwed. So I always pass it back out. I don't know...I am faster than a lot of them, so that helps a little.

I had a dream before my Columbia interview that I had moved to NYC and started volunteering at NY Presbyterian, and that I was in an elevator with two girls that went up the 4200th floor and then started plummeting to the ground. Once it reached the ground level it crashed, but I was "ejected" (I guess in my dream I could travel through solid materials) and landed on the street - then I woke up in a hospital bed and it was like 3 years later. That was a weird dream.

I had a dream the night after my Columbia interview that I went to this carnival that they were having at Columbia. While I was there I met up with this student who knew the secretary in admissions. So I asked her if there was any way she could check and see if I was accepted or not - she did, and she came and told me that I was rejected. And then she proceeded to laugh in my face... that was not a cool dream.

But those are just the bad/weird ones. I have dreams almost every night (and remember them) and most of them are much more positive.

Those are weird, chad. They don't even make sense! 😛

My first med school dream was right after I submitted AMCAS. And I was watching the OC before I went to sleep (don't judge me). One of the characters in that show is obsessed with Brown, so that school was stuck in my head. ANYWAY, in my dream, I was being interviewed my an adcom member. And the whole time he was praising me and telling me how I'd be a great fit at the school while I smiled. 10 minutes into our interview, the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. But before we left his office, the dean walks in and tells me that I shouldn't worry about the interview being cut short because I was already accepted to their school. He also offered me a full tuition scholarship. 🙄

I wish that actually could happen.

I love grocery shopping at night. And it's only 10pm on the west coast.

Haha, me too. The place is empty and it's a pretty quick checkout. During the day it's always packed...silly college towns.

Both...but I'm short. So I have a hard time driving when we're playing with big guys.

I hear you.

A little late for that...

West coast time + 24 hour supermarket = never too late! 😀

The problem is the big guys take up so much space in the paint, its hard to maneuver around them with such limited space, much less rise and finish before they can react with their height advantage.

It's too bad that dream didn't actually come true - that'd be pretty sweet!

I always have dreams that don't make sense. I also have daydreams that don't make sense. I just live in a fantasy world I guess... Have you ever seen Pan's Labyrinth? When I was a kid I used to make up fantastical stories like that and pretend like I was living in them. I have always loved imaginative and rich adventure stories.

I wonder... 🙄

Speaking of which, my LOIntent is sitting on my countertop, ready to be mailed out tomorrow first thing in the morning. :scared: I hope I did a good job of selling myself to the school.

:xf: good luck!

I sent an LOI to my top choice last week. Not sure if I really sold myself that much, just wrote about why I would fit in...and a little update on the last few months. Did I do it all wrong?!? Are you emailing a copy to the adcom as well?

WHY are only 2 of these players women? Everyone knows that women's tennis is way more interesting to watch. Also, I 😍 Federer.

Thanks! Best of luck to you as well! I've gotten several sample LOIs from people, and they range from short statements of intent (like 1 paragraph) to 2-page essays detailing why the school could not possibly survive without the applicant, so I'm sure yours is fine. Mine was somewhere in the middle... I basically talked about what I liked about the school and how my experiences mesh with that. I'm planning on sending a very detailed update letter in a couple weeks as well. I've been pretty busy this past year and I figured combining a LOI with an update letter (at least in my case) would have been like 3 pages.

Yes - the physical copy is going to the Dean of Admissions via the Admissions Address. An email copy will be sent tomorrow morning as well.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I should have a LOI of sorts in my file already. After my interview there my pre-med advisor sent the Dean an emailing telling him I was "passionate" about attending there and endorsing my application. That's honestly the most useful thing my advisor's done for me this entire process.

I sincerely hope that Columbia comes through for you. You're certainly putting in the effort!👍

Thanks guys. I sincerely appreciate the support.

I have to say, if I am offered admission at Columbia, it was the result of a team effort. There have been so many people encouraging and praying for this whole crazy process for me and I truly appreciate it. Not to mention the advice I've received on personal statements/secondary essays/random other correspondence. Everyone's been great and I hope that in the end it was enough to convince them. Just 5.5 more weeks to wait. :scared:

Yikes, they take their sweet time! My first choice only accepts 25% of their class before may 15th and after that takes people off the wait list all summer long...I should be getting a decision in two weeks or so but I have a feeling it's gonna be a looong ride.
