Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have a good weekend guys, congrats on your interviews and lets hope for a flurry of invites next week!

Just got done with grocery shopping and random errands. I really should pick up around the house now, but I need a break after fighting Walmart! ha!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I have my first interview on Monday - excited and nervous. I can't seem to focus on getting my readings done this weekend 🙁

YAY! Have a great time.. soak it up. This is a nervewracking, but memorable and exciting part of the process. 🙂

Thanks! I got my interview day schedule yesterday for the school and it seems pretty relaxed. Only one 30 minute interview session. The rest of the day is free food, info sessions, and tours. 🙂

florida international university, conveniently 30 miles from my parents' home but inconveniently 1500 miles from my home 🙂

One week til my next one, woohoo. One of the schools I'm waiting to hear from finally cashed my check, so maybe they are making progress on our files! I'd love to get an invite there 🙂

Yay, that's awesome! Are you interviewing morning/afternoon? I'm excited! haha.

Everyone ready for a new week?? It seems like the weekend went AWFULLY fast! :scared:

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend - I was super busy with rehearsals and couldn't make it around - I went to bed at 9:00 last night! 😴 I found out that I am not the swing in my show, which is great news to me. We were also assigned parts and I was given the ones that are vocally more challenging so that was a nice confidence booster. My solos are "Rock & Roll is Here to Stay," "I Only Have Eye [Eyes] for You," "Slish Slash [Splish Slash]," "Disco Inferno," "She Blinded Me with Science," and "Rock & Roll All Night." Because it's a halloween-themed show, some of the songs' lyrics are changed to fit the theme. It's a fun show but really tiring - we learned all the entire show with singing and dancing in 7 days of rehearsal. We ran the complete show 9 times yesterday.

Good luck everyone on their interviews this week! I can't wait to hear all about them! My first interview is in 8 days! I'm starting to get nervous! :scared:

No foolin'. Seems like it was just Friday. Oh well, few days closer to the holiest of holy pre-med days: October 15th!

Wooohooo! I'm totally counting down 🙂
In the meantime, trying to keep myself busy with schoolwork, but there isn't much of it.

Here's hoping everyone has a grrrrreat Monday!

Hey Chad im coming up to richmond soon....is the med school at VCU easily navigable or should I leave extra early in case I get lost?

It's not the most difficult campus but it's not the simplest either. Fortunately the Admissions Office in Sanger Hall is pretty easy to find. Take a look at these maps:

http://www.vcu.edu/maps/mcvmap/mcvmapov/ - Sanger is in section C.
http://www.vcu.edu/maps/mcvmap/mcvmapov/c.htm - Sanger is Building 20.
http://www.vcu.edu/maps/mcvmap/sanger/sanger.htm - The Admissions Office is in the first floor of Sanger. Go in the entrance on Marshall Street - there are stairs up to the building the revolving doors. After passing through the revolving doors turn left to the lobby and walk past the security/information desk. The admissions office should be right in front of you.

What time is your interview? I'll be around campus from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm so if you get really lost you can call me if you want.

EDIT: If you decide to park in the parking deck, make sure you take the elevators up to the top floor (street level) of the parking deck. Then walk out to the left and over a little bridge - you'll find yourself on Clay St. Keep walking for about a block and turn left on 11th street. Walk one block, cross Marshall, and Sanger Hall is going to be directly on your left.

Oh chad... "She Blinded Me With Science" is hilarious. I love that song.

4 hours left in this workday. I'm looking at M1 schedules for my top school. Looks like.... fun! I'm so ready.

Yes, that is one of my favorites. Everyone else has a costume change during that one so its just me onstage and I have to go down to the audience and pick a girl to sit on the end of the stage with me. I'm supposed to have this fake amputated hand and an old, dusty "science" book. It's going to be a lot of fun.

Sigh....and that means that EVERY school I applied to (except Emory, which just sent out secondaries a week ago) has started interviewing. Which means that 20 schools are officially ignoring me. Sigh.

Don't worry LET - A) It's early in the cycle; B) your stats are amazing; C)You only need one acceptance! 🙂

Hahaha thanks, I assure you my stats are decidedly unamazing, but thanks for the good wishes! I know all I need is one, I'm just...stressed.

In other news, I found a gray hair today! I AM 22 YEARS OLD!!!! Freakin med schools....

Thats nothing. I got my first white hair when I was 15... and two of my white hairs FELL OUT!😱

Good: You are starting to look more mature
Bad: You are getting white hair
Worse: Your hair are starting to fall out
Even worse: You worry if you will have any hair left at the end of med school...

And keep in mind, I am only twenty. I curse my bad hair genes😡

Christ, I hope this isn't a pattern...no one in my family grayed early, I'm hoping this is just the gray hair of med school application despair, and that it's an EXTREMELY isolated incident. Last thing I need is to actually get white hair from the stress. Next I'll break out in hives.

Oh, and yay, Lee!

Congrats! How was it?

It went very well. The interview day was very relaxed and I thought the interview questions were very fair, although a couple did make me think. Several hypotheticals...if you were a doctor, and a patient came in with...what would you do? I interviewed at one of my state schools, FIU. This is their inaugural year and everyone seemed very enthusiastic about the school and its future direction. They have a very innovative curriculum, unlike any I have ever seen. There is a Medicine and Society strand in which, starting from the first year, you are assigned to a disadvantaged family in the miami area. You follow the family through your entire med school career and slowly build up a physician relationship with them. At first, you will visit their house with an attending physician but you get more independence as you progress through the years. The class is also broken up into smaller cohorts and you guys work together and have a common social space. Every med student will also have 24 hour access to the library and each will have his or her own desk in the library with private access. The clinical affiliations are also great, they've partnered with several major academic centers in the greater Miami area, including the Jackson Health System, Mount Sinai, Mercy, and Miami Children's - the top pediatrics hospital in the state. Overall, very impressed! 😀

WOW. Sounds fantastic! Best of luck! DId they give you any idea on when you'd be hearing from them?

Well, congratulations, Lee! Now, the agonizing wait 😛

Serikk has some great news...I'm waiting for him to come and tell you guys!
Ha. Now I'm all 😳. Just got a Harvard invite! Lee, I'm so happy to hear your first interview went well! They're kinda fun, huh?

Wow! Harvard, that is amazing 😀 All the best to you!

Yeah, I'm glad it went well, it will give me a confidence booster for my next interview at Rochester, which I really like so hopefully I can be myself and impress them too 🙂.

So, this is interesting for any out of staters thinking about FIU. Apparently, unlike all the other FL publics, they do not have an in-state/out of state quota. One of the deans said they are thinking about filling 20 instate and 20 out of state for the 40 member inaugural class. B/c they don't have a full staff yet, they said not to expect to hear back by 10/15. It would be more along the lines of November.

Congrats everyone and good luck!

The only thing that tops a Harvard invite is a harvard acceptance. So, when is the interview?! haha this is exciting!
Either the Sept 24,25, or 29. I'm trying to tack it onto my Dartmouth trip, since they're in the same general location.

I got my first rejection today and it was from one of my top choices...
The only way it can get any worse is if Penn and LA reject me also...
Oh well, SW, you still love me right...

Man that sucks. Keep your head up though. Lots of time left for it to happen.

Fight the good fight!

🙁 I know how you feel. I've been seeing people get interviews at two of my top choices left and right and it keeps making me sadder and sadder. Sigh. Hey, we both have some great options though! Cheer up, Charlie!

It's true, you do. I'd trade about any of mine to with you to get your Duke interview!

Thanks. I guess it was expected considering my clinical experience is slightly on the abysmal level... Oh well... By the way LET how is the Vandy interview. Mine is on Thursday.:luck: to everyone!

Haha thanks, yeah I'm definitely excited about that one. No idea what they saw in my application that made them like me, but hey, I'll take it! Wouldn't mind your Columbia one...I wont give you Duke for it though! And congrats on Haahvaaahd.

Vandy is a super awesome place, you'll love it. Everyone is incredibly nice, the school is great, the curriculum is great, the students are fun...anyways, no negative impressions here, except I don't think my interview went very well 🙁. Ask Serikk though, he's being recruited!

Good luck! I'm sure it'll be awesome.

Haahvaahd, eh serikk? Congrats!!

It's a great evening here - beautiful weather (almost 80 degrees, very pleasant compared to Mississippi summer - which apparently ended today ), my maintenance man came and worked on the a/c (just in time for the summer to end... of course, I run it about year round) and replaced all my lightbulbs! 😍 to apartment living sometimes...
