Well my friend told me that oriental referred to things like carpets or furniture...not people.

Actually, a week ago, Mr. Nola's mother referred to Mr. Nola as looking more "oriental" than his sister. That was a weird moment. I totally didn't know what to do with that statement at all.

I accidentally called one of my friends oriental when I was in 8th grade... And my middle school was about 60% Asian...

Well what I was really implying was that all Asians look like sloths. (Doesn't it look like that sloth has got three chopsticks on each hand?)

And wait, funky, you've heard that oriental is bad, too? I'm just trying to figure out if it is or not, or whether my 11-year-old buddy was just trying to mess with my mind.

Oh and Oriental is a "bad" word, because it was historically used in the context of the "western" societies categorizing the "Non-Western" Societies... It was basically from North Africa all the way to Eastern Asia. But it is bad, because it is supposed to place it in an all encompassing group... it is also an outdated archaic term which is practically calling someone of african descent the 5 letter N word... I think...

Huh, good to know I'm not the only person who's heard that.

Also I think the N word usually has 6 letters. To qualify as an insult.

I was joking about the whole sloth/Asian thing, man...😳 I swear. I just thought the sloth looked like he was holding chopsticks. I swear. 😳

This post caught my eye... and you're right funky 😎.

Between me and my sister, we have been to east Asia quite a few times. The convention (and an easy way to remember) is that "Oriental" is a type of rug, not a human (not trying to be offensive :idea:). "Asian" is a more proper term used, although there are huge differences between Cambodians, Vietnamese, and Chinese!

EDIT: 500! Ok 500 + 2, but still.

I have "gotten" 2/3 and both do not have any aid award listed🙁😡

Why do schools send out emails when they have not posted the stuff up yet?😡
