Going to Mr. Nola's step-sister's birthday party. I don't know how I feel about going to an 18 (soon to be 19) year old's birthday party when alcohol's going to be around.

Yeah, yeah, I should chill out. But still...I can't help the feeling that it's just not right.

Yeah, but apparently some of our colleagues may, in the future, hold it against us if we take leaves from work (even if employers are not legally allowed to discriminate). This from the non-trad forum, panda bear and other sources. Bear in mind, maternity leave in the US is usually pretty short.

Taking a cut in hours means taking a cut in pay...if I'm hoping to have kids before I'm 35 or so (before the risk of down syndrome increases dramatically) that means I'll probably be taking a cut in pay right when I'm paying back loans.

Lots of ickiness there.

Believe me I've thought about this a LOT (as I'm sure you have as well). I definitely, definitely want to do both.

Discrimination will suck, but there's such a physician shortage around here, i should be indespensible :laugh:

Pay cut = eh. As a pediatrician, it might make a significant difference, but if I'm in neo, the hours are better anyway - so I may not have to cut them much (plus the pay is better).

Hmm....I've read other things by Maupassant that I wasn't particularly fond of (I was a French major). But maybe I'll check it out in a bit.

My French teacher, on the other hand, thought he spoke something along the lines of "the word of God" regarding gender relations. That he had incredible insight into the interactions of men and women.

I believe I remember disagreeing, but it's been a while.

I read it, and I did not really like it... It does not have the same quality to it as the other Maupassant short stories...

Yeah didn't Maupassant believe that women are EVIL, POWERFUL seductresses designed to doom men into making fatal errors? Or at least, that's kind of how they "end up" in his stories?

Yeah I think he had some life experiences that influenced his view of women, IIRC.

Hehe, Mr. Nola trusts me a lot. I endeavor to deserve that trust. 😀 I think he knows that.
 
Ah.. I broke 50 miles for the week starting Monday. I don't think I'm going to run for at least the next 2 days.. my abs are killing me (surprisingly, my knees feel just fine). Ah, Spring Fling! A whole weekend of Penn debauchery. Not that I'm getting into any of that... too old for that crap.

Time to get cleaned up, change and head out with a college buddy for some all you can eat sushi! My reward for breaking 50 miles 😀

From what I'm looking at, it looks like the updated proposals are better, but it's taking a *really* long time to go through the whole thing. (So I'd like to cheat and ask you guys what you're doing.)

Ugh, I am so stuffed from all the sushi I just ate. I must have eaten like 50 pieces. I am definitely out of commission for the next 2 days. And happily so! I need a break.
