Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
papers suck. sorry guys.

I hate skippin class, because it leads to wanting to skip more class. case in point: tomorrow night. grr.

I have "three more days" of class. By which I mean I will spend all of Monday with Mr. Nola because all my classes are cancelled. Go to one class on Tuesday. And I have no classes on Wednesday.

So my parents told me that they invited people for brunch this morning... Haha, no wonder it smelled so good when I woke up... They should have told me beforehand... Oh well, good food😀

Okay, now I really have to start studying...

that's awesome Berk!!!! Since we MAYYYYY be classmates (b/c I DO know towards which school you are leaning) in the fall we could take spin classes together...It's awesome!!!!

no matter what just keep pedaling and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS push yourself
YYYYAAAAYYY! We could possibly be classmates?! Please PM me what schools you're thinking about going to and what the possibility is you'll come to my school!

Anyway, the class was AMAZING! My legs may fall off...but I am so happy.

hopefully they play good music
Music was awful. 😛

Berken has no idea what she's in for, especially if this is her first class. God bless, Berken.
Hahah well, I'm fairly active, so this wasn't that bad for me.

I cannot agree more. After some time in your cycling classes, you may start to develop enough conditioning that a regular class seems very manageable. Do not become tempted to become content with your workout (even if you are following the program). If you're not pushing yourself, you're simply doing maintenance work and will likely not see any results.

However, you may notice that there is usually a break between songs the instructor uses for delivering instructions. Use this time to continue with the same intensity from the previous song and continue working your buns off.

Imagine this like a soccer game, which I'm sure you've played before(?). The common saying is that "soccer players do it for 90 minutes." But really, if you've played soccer, you realize that you aren't actually RUNNING for 90 minutes, there is a lot of jogging, standing, and waiting that is involved. Now, if you are ballsy enough, try to hit the track, and spend 90 consecutive minutes RUNNING (not jogging). The intensity and duration of time will undoubtedly have your legs crying for a break.
So the point is, that is all about intensity and pushing that lactate threshold if you want to see some incredible gains. 👍
👍👍👍 OK, I wish I pushed myself harder in this class...but it was my first one and I was a little scared of what was to come. I signed up for an afternoon class...I'm not leaving that class till my legs fall off!!!

lol gross description Bacchus...
If your gym offers it, you might be able to also pull off back-to-back spin classes! that's great too. Or, what I find works best, is spinning your heart out, then (after changing tshirts in the locker rooom) jumping on the treadmill to run your heart out. Your legs will be screaming and youll be wishing you could slow down and rest....but the run is over before you know it, and you'll be happy with how lean you'll get after a single workout

only if you cycle with alot of resistance

not
Lyss...I was always scared of getting "buff," but I realized something...women can't get buff. It's really hard for us to gain muscle.

You don't really get buff so much as stocky. The most pressing concern I remember my highschool team mates having was "omg, are my boobs shrinking?!":laugh:

I used to be able to do an 8 minute mile then.

<--- is being re-educated on how amazingly out of shape she is. (I did one whole regular perfect pushup. TO THE KNEES!)

😍 😍 😍 😍 😍It is 95 degrees today😍 😍 😍 😍 😍

You mean you did the bent-knee pushup?

That's too hot for me. Perfect weather is like 75 degrees.

it was like that here yesterday, too hot 🙁

I like high 50's to low 60's, just warm enough for a t-shirt and cool enough to not sweat.

Hahaha! I don't lift enough weights to get stocky either (at least I hope not!)

Yeah? It's 75 here. Take that! :meanie:

No, I did one perfectly ordinary "perfect" pushup and hit failure.

Thus, by the prescribed perfect pushup wall-calendar, I will do the remainder as bent-knee pushups, until I become capable of lifting my own arms again.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Note: I am fine with perfectly ordinary imperfect pushups on palms and knuckles if necessary.

Are they any good?

Yeah, I've never understood why people like grilled cheese with tomato soup.

Because it's delicious!

I'm at work. 🙁 But I'm about to leave! And then I need to decide if I want to go down to New York City just for dinner to see my parents one last time before they leave the country (next time I see them will probably be in August). I saw them just last weekend though! And I'm tired.

so I haven't done anything today.

That's alright, it's kind of a lazy Sunday over here as well 🙂

Work on Sunday sucks 😡

I think you're ok if you decide to skip dinner, especially if you saw them recently.

Neither have I.

Boo for Sunday work.

IDK why but my calves seem to get stocky very easily. I played soccer when I was younger and my calves are still pretty muscular. I hate it!

it's 76F in Napa CA right now. Beautiful weather! I remember I thought this was cold when I got back from Miami though 😳
I'm not as spoiled anymore and can appreciate this warmth. I still feel that I am going to move to a tropical climate as soon as I finish all my meducation though. Most likely out to a Pacific Island...Guam/Hawai'i.

And to echo Berk; resistance training will not turn you into a bulky muscle bound monster. Lady-folk typically don't have the genetics to fill out like their male counterparts. In fact, the resistance training will most likely lean you up quicker. Why? Muscle is metabolically active, thus burning lots of calories to maintain. This gives you a higher Basal Metabolic Rate (the energy you spend vegetating on the couch watching TV), which will help you lean out more in the long run.
and while I'm on on this soap box of fitness proclamations: higher intensity workouts, even if performed for substantially less time than a low intensity cardio workout, will produce greater overall benefits (and is much more time efficient).

EDIT: and BIG UPS to MYUUU on her push-up! =D lol

I have 2 more MONTHS of classes... 3 weeks=easy

awwwwwwwwwwwww funky....and then you'll switch over to the typical southern/northeastern schedule where you start in August and get out in May....this summer is going to be sooooooooo short for you

that's how it felt after I graduated from high school and then matriculated at Rice for freshman year

Yeah, but I would end up wasting my break if it got too long...

Wait, if you have already done your bachelor's at Rice, what exactly are you doing at Penn? A second BA/BS?

but she will develop a thicker lower body musculature if she uses really high resistance....just won't be nearly as buff as a man...and she won't end up looking like this:

😱
