I'm appealing my financial aid award from Cornell. I wanted to include a little paragraph stating my interest in Cornell and how much I want to go there BUT I'm receiving a better financial offer from another school so please please re-evaluate my offer. <3 Lyss


Problem is... Cornell needs this letter today & I haven't received Pitt's financial aid award yet so i can't say for sure (though i'm pretty sure) that their offer is any better. Is that too risky? Do the financial aid officers between schools talk to each other or is that private info?

I highly doubt the different schools discuss financial aid packages for students. I would word the letter so that, "I have received a more feasible financial aid offer from another institution" -- is Cornell cost of attendance a lot higher than Pitt? If you have an idea of the average offers made from each school in comparison to their COA then you'd have a good idea of what numbers you're looking at.

I kind of doubt they talk to each other, after all this is private information (finances of applicant and in some cases, parents too)... plus they're up to their gills coming up with packages for current students in addition to accepted students.

But I feel like you should just touch on why you want to attend the school and try to subtly let them know it will play a role in your decision.. something like that. No need to try to bring them into a bidding war.

I wouldn't expect much change in your financial aid but you never know. Why don't you call them up and talk to them straight up instead? Kinda like how Vadd pulled his off (though his situation is a lot different)

My guess (honestly don't have a clue) is that the fin aid stuff is private, but since the admittance offers is "public" info, you just can't lie about that (which you aren't ).

I think you can play that fin aid game and it be legit....I would do it

I think you'll be ok as long as you don't say anything specific. Saying Pitt's offer is "better" could mean any number of things, so you should be alright.

Sheesh, it took me like 30 minutes to catch up on last night...

So I had to sleep in today since I had a headache... Thankfully it is gone...

Time to do my Turkish homework, make my poster, and do a few more experiments in lab...

I bet you anything it's there, it's just really hard to see. Do a Ctrl+F on "The SDN Logo and "Student Doctor Network" are registered trademarks of CRG." Directly to the right of that you should see some weird message that links to sdnlive.

Yeah, I am not excited about this part in addition to coursework. Let alone what field to even look in :scared:

I need to go to the lab right now and start on a synthesis...

I've planned it out, assuming it works like it should (which it probably will, as I've done most of these individual steps before), I should have product I can actually write a paper about by Friday. But I'll be in the lab 4-5 hours a day this week to accomplish that...

*sigh* Synthetic organic sucks.
