Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Shadowing today was fun. I got to do a ton of physical exams (ears/nose/throat/lungs primarily) which was great experience. Allergy isn't as high paced as OB, but I learned a lot in one day.

How much did you learn, because I have this really weird rash on my....well I'll just send you pics. Let me know your differential diagnosis.

LET,
Please tell me you watched the quarterfinal matches. All four of them were absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that out of all the group winners (Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, and Croatia), only Spain advanced to the semifinals. The Turkey vs Croatia match was by far the most dramatic game I have seen in quite some time. Both sides were just battling back and forth. Who really expected two see two goals in the 119th and 121st minutes. WOW 😱 I know your bummed about Italy, but I must say that I'm stoked about Spain winning. Unfortunately for the Italians, Luca Toni simply just didn't show up for the tournament. Also, where did the Dutch go?

Paz,
Alex

Hey Class of 2013! What's up everyone?

I'm getting stressed about my application - submitted on 6/17 and not verified. It seems like it's taking ~10-11 days to get verified now. Hopefully by the end of the week...

In other news, I just found out that I got a callback to an audition I went to! It's a show I've wanted to do for years - so I'm really excited!

Hey guys, I wouldn't be surprised if this was asked before, but is 27 schools too many to apply to?

It's certainly a lot, but I've heard of more. I guess if you don't mind the copious amount of money and time it and the secondaries will take, then go for it. I always figured there was a point of diminished returns, but I'm not sure where that would be.

Differential for rash...

1)allergy
2)STD (if it's in the place you say...)
3)Poison ivy/oak (you shouldn't be doing that in the woods....😆)

So, in short, I didn't learn much.:laugh::laugh:

hay hay hay!

Good luck to all you kids who's app will be sent out in the first "wave" today!!!!!!

AMCAS still continues to hold my proverbial 'balls' in their vice grip, for the moment, still "ready to review" 🙄 Oh well. I'm going to get into medical school, if I have to hitch-hike on up to Washington and verify my app myself! 😀

But good luck to everyone! I know you guys must be obsessively checking your accounts, waiting for those secondaries to come rolling in......

Today's the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁 I hate that my spring grades weren't out until the 12th...I wanted to be in the first wave. It's psychological, but I'll take any edge I can get. 😛

I'm jealous of you peeps who got to do hands on stuff in your shadowing.

I didn't even ask for hands-on experience yesterday, but my shadowing doc used to teach at Walter Reed (for years) so he was all about it.

YAY! I just heard back from the NICU team at our other local hospital. I hadn't heard from him in over a month so I thought they forgot about me. Turns out they had to go before the board to get permission for me to come... And I was approved! 👍

So I'll be getting in the NICU soon! 🙂🙂

Hey guys!!!!

I'm officially "under review" as of noon today!!!!!!! Finally!!!! :soexcited:

grad2008, grats on all your hands-on experience.... that sounds amazing. Once my research is finito (hello July 20th) I want to get some more shadowing under my belt.... I think you have a good game plan, getting such a wide variety!

Thanks, I'm loving it. I've always enjoyed shadowing so I'm getting as much experience as possible.

Still waiting to be verified...yeah for the beginning of some of the longest months of my life!

Good morning! How's everyone feeling knowing that the cogs of the great application machine have started turning?

For some reason, it all seems so anticlimactic. Yesterday was just like the day before is just like today. Hmmm. Maybe it's because this is my second time around and it's not quite so novel anymore.

Eek! I got my first secondary today (ohio state) while I was sitting at the osu medical school campus visiting (happened to be in the area). Very twilight zone. Got 3rd letter in yesterday and waiting on mcat scores today or tomorrow. Scary!

Got my first secondary today (FIU)!!!!!! Woohoo!!!! 😀

Time to start writing....

oOoOohhh and i just got USF's secondary too... july is going to be a pretty busy month! 😀😀

Still not expecting a secondary until at least next week, but that doesn't mean I don't feel like I'm behind somehow! Damn you neuroticism!!

Im jealous!!! I want one! (A secondary that is....)

Yeah, I still have the prompts from last cycle, so theoretically I could start working on those again.

What if the prompt asks a question that the answer won't have changed since the previous year like, "How should a doctor handle his/her responsibility for patient care?" or something like that. Think it's wise to use the same answer as last cycle or take a whole new stab at it? I mean, I did get an interview with that answer before...

Wassup 2013! I have been absent because my computer crashed on me and it had to be sent back to HP, bummer. But the good news is that I submitted my amcas yesterday, so now I am officially in the hunt with you all! The not so good news is that I have to wait on tranny's, oh well. I will just chill out and enjoy all of your good news about secondaries! Here's to 2013!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless!

Wait, what?

All this c/o 2013 talk is making me really hopeful that I can be one of the lower-than-MCAT-average folks that gets in. The MSAR sectional score ranges for my schools seem to suggest so, but I'm scurrrred. Real scurrrred.

Whoo! Got my first secondary! I'm about a month ahead of where I was last cycle. That's a pretty cool feeling I must say! 😎

just submitted SUNY buffalo secondary and Robert Wood Johnson.. im very excited : )

The ball is rolling guys!!!

Hey all! Just submitted WashU and UMich secondaries! Working on three more! It' so exciting!

For once in my life im not procrastinating...Im actually completing tings the day I get them rather than the night before the due date...

Whatthe hell is happening to me?!?!:scared::scared::scared:

Stillll waiting. I've rec'd two "under review" emails from schools on my list, but no true secondaries. Of course, I'm not applying to as many as some of y'all either... I know my state school will come through soon.

Aren't those "under review" e-mails cruel? I got one from U Miami, one of my top choices, and I got all excited when reading the subject, but was disappointed to find only that they hadn't decided whether to send me a secondary!

Same here!!

I'm hoping it doesn't come too soon though... I leave tomorrow to Costa Rica for 2 weeks on a medical mission trip and I'm not sure how much time I'm going to have to work on secondaries!

Any advice on how soon I should turn in secondaries?? I hear you should try to submit in a week or less after receiving the invite. I've received 4-5 already, but with my Costa Rica trip in the way I don't think I'll be able to finish/submit in less than a week. :scared: I'll definitely try to get them in by mid to late July... hope that's reasonable.

Hey guys! Just wanted to wish you all best of luck =) I hope for the best for all of you! Chins up!!!!

👍👍👍👍👍
