Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys, hope everyone had a great night.

I heard back from my audition, and after three callbacks, I did not get the part. 🙁 I'm a little disappointed, but honestly it's probably a good thing. I'm going to be a bit swamped the next month with secondaries and they really deserve all of my attention. Plus there is a much better opportunity coming up for me in a couple months that I'm really excited about.

Now I can focus all of my anxiety toward finally getting verified! AMCAS, where are you? 😡

Hello everybody! Finally submitted my AMCAS a couple of days ago. Makes it all seem real enough to start haunting SDN again (reapplicant from 07). Good to be here and good luck to everyone this season! 🙂

Sorry about that 🙁 Best of luck with the next one!!

2 hours til the weekend!!

i have a question aout Loyola Univeristy of Chicago.... does the jesuit catholic religious affiliation have any influence on the education or selection process? It seems like a great school, but i'm not religious and they seem to take great pride in the fact that it is a jesuit catholic institiution...... does that mean they have a preference for people who are catholic?? require certain classes throughout med school?

Hey Class of 2013! I hope the application process is going well! I am glad to be here and wish everyone the best of luck on the journey to medical school!

Not at all. I know a couple people who go to their undergrad who are far from Jesuit, Catholic or even Christian and love the school and from what they have said it seems to be a pretty liberal school religion-wise.

great! thanks 👍

Hey CO 2013!!!

I am working on secondary essays right now and I am sure that I have seen some discussion about not being able to type answers into applications on Adobe. I was wondering is it feasible for me to purchase Adobe editor or are there not enough schools using adobe for their applications for me to consider spending that amount of $$$?

Thanks guys!

best of luck to ya all!

Eh, I don't know that it would truly be worth it riceman. I've had one secondary in PDF form to date after the end of last year's cycle. I think most of them are online online now.

Been studying up on NICU terminology, diseases, protocol, etc in order to be prepared for my first morning on Tuesday! Hospital orientation tomorrow afternoon. I'm super excited.

Wow...that sounds like it is going to be alot of fun!!!!! Many memorable experiences to come!

Please let us all know how everything goes!

Hey guys, it's been a few weeks. I'm so friggin busy with my obesity research. We have Nintendo Wiis in our unit for a research project, it's pretty sweet! I'll check in again later, and good luck with the applications fellas!

It's Monday..... Ugh!

Good things - mean class is over for the summer and I go to orientation today for NICU in the morning. Fun stuff!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

So the guy who did my fingerprints messed up and I "failed" three, so I have to go back by there before orientation. LOL.

"Failed"? How do you fail fingerprinting? Does that mean they got a few hits on some murder weapons or something?

 It probably means there was not enough ridge detail in three of the prints to accurately identify the "suspect." They were probably smudged too much.

Good news: I got verified today! I'm so happy because AMCAS didn't change a single one of my course titles or designations. I'm especially happy because I listed all of my forensic science classes as "Biology," and I had a feeling they were going to change them to "Other" or "Physical Sciences." But they didn't - that was a huge boost to my BCPM GPA because I got A's in all of them except for a one-credit intro course freshman year. 😀

Got UVA's secondary today too. I'm going to fill that one out ASAP - the essays aren't that bad.

forgot about the LOE portion of amcas...so i just added the letters and resubmit

Looks like the waiting game begins once again, damn AMCAS!

HELLO CLASSMATES!

How are things? I'm trying to convince myself to work on secondaries while sitting at work, and I just made a big chart on which I'll write the timing of the application process (like, for each school, the day I start the secondary, when I've submitted it, when it's complete...etc). I also found out that my undergrad won't send any committee letter until August 1st. Great. Hopefully that's still early enough?? AAAAAAAHHHHH.
Tomorrow I have to present the study I'm heading to a room full of doctors...wish me luck...

My school won't submit our LORs until July 17th. I think you'll be fine if they're submitted by August. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think most schools don't start reviewing applications for interview invites until late August anyway.

The guy who did my prints was new and when it asked him to repeat something he didn't, so it ended up and my whole right hand was off by one finger.

(It would say thumb and he'd be doing the index, etc). He just did the pinkie twice and let it go.

OBVIOUSLY, it came back that my index finger is not my thumb, my middle finger is not my index, and my ring finger is not my middle.:laugh:

So I returned and someone with a little more practice repeated the hand. We all make mistakes, I was just kinda nervous thinking they'd caught me...ahhh!:laugh: Of course I think the only thing I could get caught doing is studying. Sigh. Anywho, all is well, hopefully no one stole my identity and used my fingerprints to commit a crime (we'll know next week 😆) and I have a badge and have been oriented. I also found employee parking AND the nicu, so I'm in good shape for morning!

No wonder "grunt" workers are so skinny, the parking lot is like a mile from the hospital....

*BANG BANG BANG*
"Gradu8 open up in there it's the police! We found your fingerprints on copies of both a Harry Potter book and The Da Vinci Code. You know pleasure reading is strictly prohibited for pre-meds! Put your pencils down and come out with your hands up!"

Good luck!

That would make sense. They have to make it through the early decisionn people first too.

My state school actually said I may be interviewing side by side with the EDP'ers, only I won't know anything until after the magic Oct 15th date. I asked about that to be sure that starting THIS early would be beneficial.

May interview as early as the first week of Sept.

dang....What did you do?? Tip the dean?

Well, I have heard of this happening at my state schools. They have room for X number of interviewees each interview day, so if they don't have enough EDPers able to fill the spots, they start asking regular applicants. Seems a little unnerving to have to wait longer than everyone else you interviewed with, but I guess thems the breaks.

Normal turn around on a decision at my SS is about 1-2 weeks, so up to six IS a long time. However, I'll take it for being "early everywhere" as opposed to EDP at one choice.

Good luck! Let me tell you, I'm green with envy here. I just do human drug trials in the hospital, so I don't even get to see bodily fluids. Wait. Maybe that's a good thing...

Hey all, it's my birthday today!! 😀

I hope that today, and the entire month of July, brings good luck to you all! :luck:

Edited to say: And this is my 100th post!!

Happy Birthday! July 1st, that's a pretty cool birthday. It's the beginning of the second half of the year, which makes your half-birthday on New Year's! My birthday is in two weeks (July 15th).

Secondaries are starting to come in... and I'm getting overwhelmed already! Argh! I need to get my haircut so I can take a nice picture and get some of the ones I have now out the door before the weekend.

Happy day of birth Carlin, hope you have a blessed one!

Wassup 2013!!!! I hope and pray everybody is doing well. I can't wait til I get my computer back. It is kind of tough being away from you guys. Okie dokie, I will check back later, God bless!

I MISSED YOU GUYS!!! I moved and still do not have internet set up at my new place so I am currently at Panera Bread really milking the free wifi with my one refillable iced tea lol...

I got my first secondary prompt today!! =) But my amcas is still not verified?? Kind of weird, but no complaints... except that amcas says they are working on ones submitted on the 1st and I submitted mine on June 19th. Boo.

I have taken to working about 60 hours/week in order to pay for apps... and I work in a psychiatric hospital. This should make for an interesting summer. At least it counts as patient contact 😉 ...

What are everyones plans for the holiday? I am going to a family picnic in W.V.

Count your blessings, I do human drug trials too but it also includes centrifuging blood...and urinalysis. Lots and lots of urinalysis.

Still beats my first research job ever though. I worked for a fertility specialist and had to do sperm counting. Now THAT was an awkward body-fluid-filled job. Imagine meeting some guy for the first time and being like "err....porn's in the other room...let me know when you're done..."

Happy Birthday!!

I had THE most amazing day ever. I'm in love with some tiny tiny little people and may never get my heart back 🙂

My favorite little kid is a 26 weeker who weighs about 1.3 lbs. She's S.A.S right now (sick as $hit), septic. But she's a fighter and I'm already attached. Most of my kids weigh between 1.5-3.5 pounds in the NICU and 3-4.5 in the Intermediate Care Unit.

I'll be there every Monday until I get tired of it or start med school (probably the latter, I'm so amazed by these little folks).

Went to a term section today as well, actually recieved the baby from the OB and helped clean her up and get her checked out.

All in all, I didn't want to leave and I've found a specialty I seriously could consider spending the rest of my life in... The preemies have stolen my heart!!

7/4 is actually my girlfriends birthday, so I'm headed up her way. Her city has good fireworks though, so it should be fun times. 👍

Yeah, I actually kinda like being forced to sit in front of a computer all day. It forces me to get some stuff done. Today I sent in another request for a rec. letter, finished my Penn app, started my Georgetown essay...hopefully I'll finish it later on today...
Is anyone here watching the olympic swimming trials on nbcolympics.com?

Oh I know the Olympics are so much fun. What's your favorite sport to watch?

Gymnastics! (I was a gymnast as a youngster) Followed by diving and swimming.

No four day weekend. However, my office is closing at 3 o'clock tomorrow! 2 extra hours of holiday, woohoo!
