Harvard. I am having trouble weighing my $85. I haven't done Temple yet either...need to research the clinical sites first.

Mine was the book question from UMass. Everyone else seems to hate that one, but I'm grateful for the break from talking about why I'm a special little snowflake 😛

"Which area of medicine interests you" from Hopkins. I had no trouble rambling on and on 😳 about why I like academic surgery.
 
Favorite essay: Columbia, "what satisfactions do you expect during your activities as a physician?"

Least favorite: U Chicago....(haven't done it yet, probably won't...) The question that asks you to "reflect" on their mission statement etc...

I'm clearly not feeling reflective.

Favorite essay: the Mount Sinai diversity one- most of the diversity ones are kind of annoying, but Sinai is a particularly great fit for me so it made writing about why I should go there really easy.

Least favorite: DEFINITELY U Chicago. I guess I wasn't very reflective either...


also, one of my patients keeps sketchily hitting on me. Oh the struggles of being a young female. Ew.

It is soooooooooooooooo much harder to BS than to talk about stuff you actually believe, which is why I like the schools that give you option of including additional info if you have something to share, but make it clear that you don't have to. I'm so done with the forced reflection, and glad I'm not applying to Chicago. 😛

Haha thanks, actually it was on my sister's facebook profile at some point and I thought it was really clever, then I heard it on Grey's Anatomy...it does seem to fit well with the general intensity of the people on these forums though. Present company excluded, of course. This is clearly the cool kids thread.

How do we feel about a riddle? I heard this one a couple of years ago and thought it was kind of clever, too. Whomever gets it first (no cheating!) wins a LET brownie point. A LET brownie point has about the same value as a Schrute buck (incidentally, you win a LET brownie point if you get the Schrute buck reference).

Riddle:

- Greater than God, more evil than the Devil, the poor have it, the rich need it, if you eat it you will die.

What is it?

Just FYI,

Don't expect this to stop any time soon. Every attractive nurse/med student I've talked to has mentioned this happening at some point.

edit: happens to guys to. I used to get hit on by older female patients fairly consistently when I was in the ED.

Haha gotta love creepy people. I had one patient who screamed "YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!" while I was taking his blood, in front of my boss, and another one who asked me how old I was and then looked all lecherous and was like "oh, you don't look much older than 18, but I guess that would be sketchy". EW. I really really don't look 18.

By the way, NO ONE has gotten the riddle? Come on people!

That patient sounds fabulous. :laugh::laugh: I was in the ER the other night and this old guy in with a bout of dementia kept trying (fairly successfully) to take his johnny off, all the while asking me if I wanted to touch his bird. Hmm. As appetizing as that sounds, I think I'll pass. 😀

I've heard that riddle before - it's a great one, but I'd be cheating if I answered.

My excitement of the week.. I got my interview suit and shoes today (great shoes with rubber traction that I could walk all day in!) and I was pretty tickled. Now hopefully I don't get all ready and then not get any interviews. That would be depressing, but likely. 🙄
 
I'm so excited 😀 As soon as I read "Greater than God" I sarcastically (not in a bad way) thought to myself "ohhh, NOTHING's greater than God..."

Aww, don't think like that!! I'm really pathetic lately.....Last year, VCU gave out its first interview invites on July 22nd....so I keep pressing F5 to refresh my inbox (23rd today....)....it's really sad.

Hey Berk! I've been missing you too!!! I have been good. The motherboard on my laptop decided it didn't want to work anymore so I was without my computer for about 3 weeks. So I was trying to use any computer I could just to peek in. The summer was kinda busy when I was getting my amcas finished but I am submitted and waiting to be verified now. So I am just chillin right now. I am trying to find a job and a puppy. How have you been? How is the application process coming?

Are you really going to get a puppy!? That would be great! haha I'm kinda working on secondaries (although i have like 20 waiting for me!). It's been a busy summer!

Puppies are a lot of fun. I want to get a rottweiler! I found some pups for $100 today. So I am going to go and check them out and hopefully I can get one. Congrats on being complete at a couple of schools. I applied to Tulane as well. We could be classmates Grad!

Today was a good day altogether. I had to go through a full day of testing with a patient who didn't make it into the protocol (booooh) BUT I made it past the UCSF pre-screen!!! And honestly, considering my grades, that's farther than I thought I'd get, so I'm absolutely thrilled.

I feel a new motivation to fill out secondaries! And this is a good one to have hanging over my head 🙂

How were all your days?
 
Mine was wonderful. I got my puppy today!!! He is a 9 week old half Rott and half German Shepard. I'm just sitting here watching him eat. Poor thing was hungry!

Also, what are you naming him?

I have a Bouvier de Flandres (I think that's how it's spelled) named Hippocrates, or Hippo for short. He lives on the other side of the country with my mom cause I live in an apartment, sigh...

Any other '13ers have pets?

I have a dog, dont know what kind. Its average sized and hairy.

I had the thought today that if I got into two really bad***** schools (say, UCSF and Columbia- a girl can dream), I'd start a thread like "UCSF vs. Columbia- FIGHT!" and then there would be the usual comments: some serious, some telling me to save money, some hating me cause I got into both and telling me it's cause I'm Hispanic, and then everyone would get mad.

But then at the end, once I decide where to go (in this case UCSF would win), I could be like "UCSF WINS! ....faaaatality...." and I wonder if many people would get the reference.

Anyways, these are the things that occur to me as I walk home from work.

We are naming him Shaka. Can't wait for him to get bigger. He's tiny right now but he is only 9 weeks old.

I'm jealous of you peeps with dogs. My black lab is living with my ex and I miss him. I'm curious, I have cats, and I'm a little worried about housing in med school w/ pets depending on where I get in. Of course it's fine if you don't live in student housing, but in some places subsidized housing is pretty key. ??

Yup, cats here too. And want a dog....a DOBERMAN!! They're the best. And german shepherds too. LOVE them. But yeah, housing is a big issue when you have pets....you can't stay on campus, and things get expensive. boo.
