Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
haha i wish we had a day off! our first day off this semester was election day and the monday before. and the next "vacation" will be 2 days for thanksgiving and thats it until finals are over.

You know, I distinctly remember the progression of feelings I got when I was first accepted to medical school.

Feeling 1:

WOOHOO! I GOT INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL!

Feeling 2:
...you mean I have to wait 10 months to do it?!?! 😱

Time moves so slowly when you're waiting for medical school to start.

haha i hear you pianola...i am looking forward to hearing from the other schools and finally making a decision in march and then the fun planning begins

I'm still waiting to hear back from 26 schools... I really have no idea where I would like to go/ where I will end up...

So, the show tonight was REALLY good. It's the very first production that this new production company put on, and it was incredibly professional. It was neat because it was the first preview of the first production, so I feel like I'm a part of history in the local theatre community now. There were lots of local people that I've worked with in the past or that I recognized from other shows in the area.

No day off here for Veteran's Day 🙁

our school has almost no days off. in my freshman year martin luther king day was a two hour lunch break from 11-1 "observation period." but people protested, so now we get two days thanksgiving, martin luther king day and memorial day off ... that's all for the entire school year

Hmmm... maybe I'll have to come up with a new answer when interviewers ask me where I see myself in 15 years.

I've actually done very little on-camera work. I always feel awkward in front of a camera and I'm not very photogenic. Nearly all of my experience is live theatre.

You can be the new House.😎 Hey, and hopefully you get Columbia, and then you can add Broadway to your resume!😀

Ha ha - I actually don't like that show. Really the only fictional "medical" shows that I like are ER and Northern Exposure.

If I do end up at Columbia, I will definitely attend some open call auditions. But just for fun - I'm really not good enough to be cast and I definitely don't want that to distract me from med school... But I would DEFINITELY be involved with Columbia's Bard Hall Players. That's one of the reasons I love the school so much - 2 plays and a musical every year, put on by med students? Crazy!

yeah i can't really stand House. I just can't get into the whole, House solves NEW medical mystery...AGAIN!
I just stick with Scrubs

Pianola, that's EXACTLY my thought. It took forever to get the acceptance, and time has slowed much more since (its only been 3 weeks? my lord....).

Got a pretty good bit of packign and a little moving done. Finished til Wednesday at least.

Time moves so slowly when you're waiting for medical school to start.

Right now, I want to go to sleep, and wake up knowing that tomorrow is the first day of orientation. I really do not care about senior year anymore...

I'm excited qbout orientation.... only approx 9 months to go.

Its like knowing you're pregnant at the moment of conception. A long, long wait for the final result!

Very good analogy!👍

So OMBD, when are you moving back? Have you set the date yet?

stealing my analogy...lol but yeah i agree. this wait is sooooo freaking long!

BlueMD, that's even worse than us! goodness. do you at least get some time between semesters??

haha thanks for the sympathy, we get 3 weeks for winter break and one week for spring ... pretty standard to my knowledge

i dunno...i love my winter break...it's definitely a solid 4 weeks and then we get the standard 1 week for spring break. And the best part about going to what used to be a baptist affiliated school? getting Good friday off

oh. and speaking of days off, what kind of breaks are there in med school? anything other than winter breaks?

It depends. According to my sister, none. She gets Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. No veterans day, no fall break, and no days to just relax. But apparently it depends on the school. I believe Mayo gives breaks in between the blocks. Pianola can vouch for the veracity of this statement.

so do any of you guys have any crazy plans/things you want to do between now and starting med school?
Skydiving was on that list, until i did it after the mcat

Yup, you're totally right funkster 😉. During the two weeks off it seems like you're expected to be doing something productive; often it means shadowing in a specialty you might be interested in pursuing. But yeah, it's much lower key than 40-hour lecture weeks (which Mayo also doesn't have 😉).

Baylor's also pretty nice in that you can kind of 'stash' your breaks when you want them. If I ended up going there, I would probably opt to get most of my clinical experience done fast; then I'd have probably 6 months to do nothing but residency applications/interviews. Think about how hectic and expensive life has been for medical school interviews...and then multiply it by a bajillion and you have residency match. It would be SUPER nice to have school over with by the time match started.

I'm still not entirely sure where I'm going to end up, but it's a nice perk Baylor has. We'll see what other schools end up telling me.

So I just got back from the studio recording background vocals for the show I'm in right now, and it was so much fun, except that I had to record a song I had never learned (hooray sight-reading)!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

That is awesome. My weekend doesn't end until Tuesday, but tomorrow I need to wake up at 3 AM so that I get ready and then I can drive down to SD for my interview! Woot for State Schools, but Boo for waking up at 3... Although I normally wake up at 3AM PST when I am interviewing on the east coast, so maybe it will not be that bad...

I feel you on that.

I implore all of you to go see Role Models as soon as possible. absolutely hysterical

I'm trying to go abroad. HOpefully through a program where I get paid for doing some research or something. My school is trying to help me out with that, but who knows. Other than that, I dont really have any crazy plans, just tryign to enjoy the last days of my college experience.

I need luck. I have UCSD tomorrow!!! What could beat med school on the beach?

I have a monster pchem problem set due tomorrow but i'm watching tv instead...i'm way too lazy for senior year.

Why do people take pchem? The reason I am not a chem major is because of pchem!

that class looks so awful and uninteresting. My roomie is a biochem major and is taking it right now.... he is miserable.

It is awful...But, I don't care! 😛 I haven't done the past 3 problem sets (there's 6% of my grade that's a 0!) And, I'm barely going to classes. This may not end well

Oh well, UMich does not care about what your grades are like UVa does right?

Nope! They don't care at all...they just want you to get your degree. <--I found this out on Sat.

But, I still want to get the B's in case I decide to go to UVa. I'd rather not have my senior year grades decide which med school I go to! 😛

Ah yes, G=H & TS. I always just called it "Ghost" since it scared me so bad.

I did not, and will not, ever take that God-forsaken class. (PChem).

How's everyone's Monday shaping up? I start my new class, Analysis of the Individual tonight. Sounds like fun, eh?
