Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The admins change it for you...BUT you have to be a donor.

That is not happening...yet... I did get the >20 invites, but Mayo rejected me, and Penn hasn't said anything...

But you got UCLA!!!

My condition on the I will donate when was I wanted Mayo, UCLA AND Penn invites... If UCLA accepts me, then maybe... I guess... or if Penn interviews me... which is very unlikely...🙁

Well don't feel too bad - I'm sure you'll blow them away at your interview and get accepted! 👍

I hope so, my sister said that her friend also interviewed in February, and they both attend right now, so it must not be a bad thing...

So you pay over $9000 for applications but you can't spare $15 to donate to SDN? 😉

(I'm just giving you a hard time, of course).

Ok...we're changing the conditions to 25+ invites and an acceptance from Penn or UCLA. We have to make this a little more reasonable, monkey!

I'll do life for an acceptance at Penn!

It will be ALOT more, unless I get UTSW this Friday/ Saturday... The Dartmouth invite is annoying, because nothing happens in New England after 2pm, and the interview day ends late, and if I wanna stick Conn at the end, since I would end up missing an extra day of school, I would have to drive in New England Snow across 4 states, and I am not the best driver, nor do I know how to drive in the snow, at night, of all times...

Why don't you consider canceling some of these interviews, monkey?

Yeah, it might be a good idea...as much as I hated canceling interviews, I've probably saved myself at least $5,000. Which is not exactly chump change.

The thing is, if I have to go OOS, then I might as well explore which region of the US I like the best, because I HATE moving, due to moving around A LOT as a child/ young adult/ even in college. I might just settle down in that state, so I wanna explore as many places as possible...

I cancelled 1 and pushed two back to January, so that they could invite more people for the day they scheduled me... I feel bad, but I am waiting on UTSW. If I get in, I might cancel a whole bunch, but it is Texas, and they do not accept too many OOSers...

I've canceled 6 so far. I hate doing it...but it's the right move in the long run.

Yeah, it's been pretty painful. You get up all that enthusiasm for a school, write your little heart out about why you want to go...and then...cancel 🙁

When schools are notified about our acceptances/rejections, will they also be notified about places from which we've withdrawn? Or will it just look like I applied to a bunch of places and had very little success because I've withdrawn from so many?

Ohh so you're waiting on Nov 15? That makes sense.

haha I actually have no idea!

Hey serikk, how would you recommend going to D-mouth?

For an interview or going to medical school there?

Interview... and if you can pass along a few tips so that I can score an acceptance like you did, I would not mind😀

Ha. I have no idea what I did to get accepted, I was late to my first interview! Anyways, I loved Dartmouth. I will say, however, that I think it takes a certain type. It is a very small, very rural institution (that is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, by the way) so if you're looking for the city life......probably not your place. But it is a great place to study medicine and acutally has an outstanding match list. Dartmouth compensates for its homogeneous patient base by providing students with tons of travel opportunities.

As far as the interview day goes, it was great. The students are wonderful and are among the most accomadating I've met. The interviewers were very kind. I think maybe one thing that helped me was that I chimed into one of Dartmouth's big themes, living a balanced life. I said I was looking for a place that promoted a balanced lifestyle in their med students, they said they were looking for students that had balance. So yeah, our idea's just kind of meshed well.

Thanks. I will take that into consideration. By the way, do you think it is better to fly into Manchester, Boston, or the Hanover-Lebanon airport?

Boston is crazy far away from Hanover, Hanover-Lebanon is crazy expensive. Manchester seemed like the best value. It's a decent sized airport and it's only an hour and a half from Dartmouth.

Hey when is your NE trip? And if you're gonna just be bored, you should go to Boston after Dmouth. You'll have to be driving south anyway and I can give you soooooo many suggestions of places to go to in Boston. And it's like, the best city ever 😀

In case you couldn't tell, LET wants everyone who is ever within seven hours of Boston to go straight there. What a fanatic 😛.
