I didn't know Rice and Baylor were merging? And Owls are awesome. They are my second favorite animals.

Rice and Baylor are currently in talks about merging; nothing definite yet, but it makes some financial sense for both institutions. The two schools are already very close and collaborate on a bunch of things, and they're literally across the street from each other, so... it wouldn't surprise me if it became a reality sometime over the next few years.

thanks! ive had it for a while (thanks to chocolate bear). That was me in 07 at big bear. Figured i'd put it up for the xmas seasonn, and ill go back to the scary haka in a few weeks (i have a new one!)
 
is anyone traveling before school starts? i'm leaving my job in the spring and am trying to figure out what to do with myself. my mentor said do something you've always wanted to do but i am having a hard time picking one thing. i am also having a hard time talking my friends into quitting their jobs and coming with me. thoughts/advice?

i was thinkin of updatin UCSD, just for the hell of it to see if anything comes out of it. I'm still on hold, and they said I wouldnt hear anything til January. What should I include in my LOI? More about why I want to go there, or why i am qualified to go there? I figure i can update them regarding my fall grades, i had a new LOR written for another school....what about mentioning UCI acceptance? I dunno if that would make a difference. I'm guessing not, but maybe there will be a "hmm if another UC gave him a chance....."

what do you all think?

LOI= why you deserve to go there, why you want to go there, and an update. I think mentioning a UCI acceptance is not a good idea...but it's up to you. Send your LOR too. It's a good idea.

I would definitely not mention an acceptance to UC Irvine...I see your reasoning, but I don't think SD will see it that way. Congrats on UC Irvine btw... That's my damn alma mater and they haven't even shown me Secondary application love. Stupid California schools, haha. Lived there my whole life up until last summer! Crossing my fingers for a California residency someday...:xf:

On the other hand, congrats on your Dartmouth interview, Berk. (Doesn't matter since you're going to BAYLOR, right? 😉).

The upside of this crazy-terrible economy is that I got 100% of my Christmas gifts on sale (things that my family really wanted) and got my stuff gift-wrapped for free! 😀

WOOHOO!!! B in Molecular Biology! I always kinda knew in the back of my head that I was fretting over a possible D for no good reason (pretty sure he wouldn't give any in a senior level class), but it sure is nice to know with certainty that I've got nothing to worry about 🙂 It's official, I really AM getting to go to Baylor! (or UTSW, if I ever have to make that decision)

Now... onto the joyful FAFSA... *sigh*

My parents got carried away and invited 50 people to our house for a party on Saturday and it got crazy... plus there is he traditional separation of genders and man after everyone left, we all took a big breath and started on the party for Sunday. I am glad I am done for parties...


Oh Crud, I just forgot that today is my parents anniversary. I need to get them their present... or I'll just make a cake with my sister... Hey, I got accepted and I got a 4.0 as a senior. They cannot ask for more....:laugh:

Congrats, funky. That is amazing. I find out tomorrow at midnight whether or not my oh-so-hot GPA is ruined...oh the suspense.

You know, I think despite what people say on this forum re: master's degrees, having a 4.0 master's GPA certainly didn't *hurt* my chances at med school...(I'm sure a 4.0 as an undergrad would have been better, but whatever. Wasn't even close 😉).

Mmmm. I want cake...

Thanks pianola and ar2388! And Pianola, I am sure you will keep your perfect GPA! I am just excited because I thought I did really poorly on my genetics midterms but apparently I aced the final😕 And for art history, I wrote the research paper the day before the midterm, and I wrote the final paper the day of the final, so I was surprised! And yes I love the rhesus pic also🙂

Ar2388, nope, sorry I am not Jewish... this was just a party since my sister was finally back home and has more than just 2 days to celebrate, unlike Thanksgiving. It was basically a gathering of friends and family, and since our religious holiday (Eid) was during finals week🙁, and all of us were at school/ out of state, and we basically celebrated on Saturday. It was when everyone was free.
 
Man, this waiting thing is hard. I am so anxious to know my decision. I try to kick it out of my mind but I can't. Geez, I need to figure out a way to keep my mind occupied. Any suggestions? How did all of you stellar successful applicants pass the time away?
 
bd- lots and lots of prayer. and knowing that God already knew the decision. I asked Him to prepare me for it and ease my anxiety... and to show me in some way what my answer was so I'd be ready.
