I missed out on all the fun last night, unfortunately: Mr. Nola's sister's bf ended up breaking up with Mr. Nola's sister. So I ended up having a long conversation with Mr. Nola about his sister's breakup and breakups in general.

I told him that in general, I would prefer to be broken up with by the least personal means possible: preferably IM, with the phone coming in second, and face-to-face last. He was just the opposite.

My rationale is that I don't want to see anyone who's going to hurt me that much. I don't want them to have the satisfaction of seeing me cry. I don't want to feel compelled to respond to their statement of "I just don't think this is working out." I don't care to be insulted to my face. Also I don't want to talk about why the breakup is occurring.

His rationale is that he wants to see the other person say it to his face -- to know that they are serious about breaking up. He wants to see his/her emotion and know how they feel about the break-up -- whether they're upset or how they're feeling. He thinks that important communications should take place face to face.

Haha, we spent about 2 hours talking about breakups 😛 and arguing the merits of different ways of breaking up.

How would you prefer to be broken up with?

It IS a little freaky isn't it? There was a skirmish between 2013 and 2014 last night so we banded together and opted for these avatars to show unity.

Gotta go with Mr. Nola on this one. Isn't it more insulting if someone breaks up with you by text or...God forbid...changes their relationship status on Facebook w/o telling you?!?

Those situations are always tough, but it shows more maturity IMO if you don't run away from that and you face it head-on.

I suppose it depends if you are the breaker or breakee, but even if I was the one getting broken up with, I would at least respect her a little more if she did it to my face.

Yeah, I guess that's totally legit. But I feel like a one-sided breakup is going to be an insult either face-to-face or or on IM or in a letter. I totally understand what you're saying though, aznb0y, and I think most people are going to agree with Mr. Nola on this one.

I guess Mr. Nola and I registered our preferences with each other 😉 so at least that's good (maybe?). He knows how to break up with me if he's going to and I know how to break up with him if I decide to do so.

I think I would prefer to be broken up with in this order: phone, in person, IM

IM or e-mail is way too impersonal (and kinda rude). If we had a relationship I would want him to at least end it respectfully

In person is way too emotional. Unless you both want to end it, I would just be there fighting tears and wishing he wasn't there. No one wants someone who hurt them to witness a moment of weakness or see how much they actually hurt you.

The phone is the perfect balance! You don't have to see the person but you can still hear them & they won't see you cry (although they may hear it). Plus you can hang up when it becomes too much (like if I hear the "can we be friends line" my finger gets tempted to press end)

Breaking up sucks. Post-it is absolute WORST. 👎

IM/Email is next worst, phone/in person is prob best

i dqn't believe that people break up using im/email or even phone call. i think that is rude and shows disrespect. like you don't care enough to even tell them to their face. or you don't have the guts to do it. i know someone who was broken up with using a text ... lame!

but guys go check out the class of 2014 thread!

I've only done phone one time. But it was a REALLY bad relationship and I was afraid of an abusive outcome. I've always done it in person.
 
BD2B any e-mails from Howard about this week? Did they tell you to call on Friday for info?
 
How is everybody doing this morning? I am good, just feeling a little tender from the gym last nite! LOL! Don't have to be to work until 10:45.

Nothing yet. Last week on Thursday Ms. Walk told me that my file is going to committee this Thursday, or tomorrow. Hoping I will get that good "your file has gone to committee" email tomorrow. What emails did you get from them around this time? If you don't mind me asking.

I got an e-mail on 11/25 saying that my file went to committee review and I should get a letter the week of december 1st. Then on 12/4 I got an e-mail saying my decision was being mailed that day & I could call to find out my status... so you might get word Friday or next week I'd guess.

if the deposit wasn't non-refundable I would of held onto it so I could go to second look and rock out!

Naw, I'm a little guy around these parts. I'm just trying to be like yall! Ms. Walk is pretty awesome. I have been talking to her for 3 yrs now thru email and phone calls. The first time I met her was at the interview. She knows me very well!
