Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Right now I have access to a ton of random lectures that they just happened to have floating around their site.
But most impressively, I can access and download the entire set of ACLAND human anatomy DVD videos 😀
Oh...and I currently have a free ticket to all the major online medical journals.

just got back from the gym. woo hoo for working out!

you sure work out a lot DRLyss...
are you getting all buffed and ripped before med school begins so you don't have to worry about an decline in health that comes from stress/studying?
If so, that's a good idea 😀

Hey Chad, when you are at Columbia, and Lyss is at Cornell, then you guys might see each other since they both share the hospital...

haha I wish! OMBD works out a lot. I barely get my a** out of bed half the time. I'm trying to get in better shape & eat healthy & all that jazz so I don't turn into a krispy kreme once I get to med school. It would be nice to build up some stamina for my hell days in 3rd year 😉

they're completely different campuses actually... but i hope to see both of them at NY-Presby regardless of which one I end up at!

Apparently there is a big turf war between Cornellians and Columbia students. We don't actually share the hospital. there are two NYPs: one across the street from Cornell [E 69th St - NYP/Cornell] and another near Columbia [W 168th St - NYP/Columbia]

Over the summer my 3rd year student that I shadowed was explaining the beef between the schools haha it was hysterical

Yeah, Columbia is at West 168th Street and Cornell is at 68th and York (East Side). They're pretty far apart actually.

Cornell is actually pretty close to NYU so maybe I'll see AR!

1) are you and OleMissBabyDoc roomies?
2) might I suggest taking up triathlons to build stamina/endurance? They're kinda fun ... when you're not writhing in pain 😳

1. nope. just sdn buddies. OMBD is in Mississippi while I live in NY, but she posts a lot about going running and working out. She's a machine!

2. hahaha I would die. Maybe one day... for now in my dreams 😀

Hmm! Tomorrow I start a daily 6AM Wii Fit routine. Anyone want to lay bets on how long that lasts?

I want to bet you wont be able to play much more Wii once med school starts...?
But I'm not sure, I've always seen video game systems at my applicant's host apartments...and in the lounge areas.
Is there time for video games in medical school?

Personally, I'd much prefer playing Table Tennis (ping pong). There was a study completed by a Japanese research team that touted the mental benefits of playing this 'sport.'

I can find that study in a little bit. Gotta run to the post office to send my acceptance notice back to Penn State 😀

I think collecting baseball cards (or other trading cards) is a global hobby, isn't it?

no ... at least not in new zealand. baseball is basically non-existent and i love sports so i would know. and go roddick! did anyone else watch it?

Ha, roomies? That'd be fun.. I'd enjoy living in NY for about a week then i'd miss the weather here 🙂

Its funny you guys think I work out a lot... I really don't... just like 25 min a day..and I used to not work out at all . haha.

good for you! what made you want to start working out. do you just running? are you planning to add other activities to your routine?

Oh, I'm getting that gaming in while I still can! Just unlocked all the playable characters in Smash Bros, but I think I'll be able to keep playing with Wii Fit (as I can justify it to myself as a health-maintenance task and not an exercise in procrastination).

it's never too late to chillax 😀

I noticed the same thing, a lot of my hosts had video games systems...gotta kill the stress somehow!

Happy Birthday Blues!!!! :hardy::horns::hello:

eh, I figured I needed the stamina for med school, plus I wanted to lose a couple pounds. I mainly run, but I do some yoga and strength training...
I bet you are like a tooth pick 😀 I hate you lol

I'm super jealous of runners. I just don't have it in me 🙁
I play basketball for cardio but put me on the streets or a track and I can't bring myself to go out for a good run. I really want to try and train for a 10k or a half marathon :xf:

alright off to work 👎 later gatorz

Hehe I'm the same way, only lately substitute martial arts for basketball 😀 I hate running.

Also, I really feel like I should lose some weight, but then I always get that "one ice cream" or "one cookie" at the end of the night... every night... that puts all my plans to ruin 🙁

btw ive never tried or seen wiifit? How is it? and does it really get you in shape?

LOL. Know what you mean...the sweets are what do me in as well. That and soda. Martial Arts though?? That sounds pretty awesome.

Wish I hadn't sold my wii, because wii fit looks like a lot of fun. From what I hear, its like a balance board type thing and they have a lot of fun games and activities that get the blood flowin.

muffin TOP!!!

Woo hoo! I'm going to a basketball game tonight (VCU vs. Northeastern). It should be a good game - both teams are tied for the number once spot in the CAA.

that does sound like a good game.

it's not sad if you didn't pay for that refurbished computer. 😛

It's awesome! I dunno about getting you in shape, but it's definitely better than playing regular video games... it gets me sweating, and makes me excited to do more working out... so works for me 👍
