what about it? is 80 the magic number for your arteries to fill with plaque? if you eat a healthy diet and maintain healthy cholesterol, then it wont ever be deposited and you wont ever have heart disease.

There may be more of a case with diabetes, seeing as you get older it may be harder to exercise, but even then, diabetes isn't caused because of your old age. there will always be ways to exercise. you dont need to be running marathons. there are ways for elderly people to exercise appropriately and it still has the same benefits. And you can still eat healthily....

note: i'm talking about type II here, not type I
hahah no not necessarily 80, but im sure there comes an age when it becomes inevitable....your heart cant beat forever.

lol type 1 vs type 2?....when they are that young it has to be type 1..right???

no it doesnt have to be type I.......type I is just commonly found in younger people.

They used to call Type II diabetes "adult onset diabetes" but they no longer use that name b/c type II diabetes is common IN ALL AGES.... and there has been an alarming rise in the rates of type II diabetes in the younger populations.......why? because they eat like **** and play video games all day.

You can also develop type I later in life....after living with type II diabetes for years....eventually your pancreas gets tired of producing so much insulin and it just quits, hence you get someone who was once type II diabetic and is now type I

heart disease is COMPLETELY different than dying of old age (ie heart stopped beating in your sleep).

yeah but 8 years old???no way the insulin receptors could be worn out by then no matter how much of a fat ass you are..??

believe it. its a sick world we live in. I mean its definitely not common for peopel to get it thaaaat young, but even if you bump up the age to 11, 12, 13.....you are trying to tell me thats a disease of aging? give me a break.

have you egg eaters ever thought about what it actually is that you are eating? Someone asked me that one day and i was like just like "hmmm, no i havent. And i dont want to."

on a similar note........anyone ever tried balut?

I love eating eggs. I would rather eat animals than plants. Animals can be mean. Usually plants can't.

Yeah...what's worse are the sushi rolls with a million tiny orange flying fish eggs on top...(I think of Nemo everytime..)

I love the tiny orange flying fish eggs.

Glory, you joined this thread afterwards, but pianola and I discovered that Berk's name is Jane... not Rachel...

👍👍 Yup!

When I went to my professor's house for dinner, she served us some salmon roe and potato spread... it was actually pretty good... I believe it is some sort of Greek dish... maybe some of the greek 2013ers knows what it is called?

I don't know. I'll have to ask my mom when she gets back from Greece (which is where she's from).

and another thing.....diabetes and heart disease ARE NOT DISEASES OF AGING. WTF??? You dont get diabetes b/c you are old.....you dont get heart diseaes b/c you are old....you get those diseases because you live in a "couch potatoe paradise" and you eat fast food every @#$@# day...

BAHHHHHHHHH! (frustration)

edit: funky what is yuor presentation watermelon mentinoed?

Yeah diabetes is totally *related* to aging. I heard a whole seminar about the matter today, actually. The aging process is definitely related.

haha i love the reasoning for eating meat (seriusly), it made me laugh. 👍

Regarding diabetees, okay, if you wanna play with the word "related." I dont mean to imply that agiing has nothiing to do with health. However, THIS is why i have such a strong reaction to the phrase "diabetes is an age *related* disease" or "diabetes is caused by the aging process" and especially if its said on national television by a CNN reporter or whoever said it....... an uneducated viewer who is watching thits special now thinks to him/herself "oooo, so really diabetes is caused by the aging process....there realy isnt anything i can do about it, i'm either gonna get it or i'm not gonna get it.....the things that I do dont really matter....." etc etc you see where i am going? I think you would agree that that is not the case for diabetes at all. It is very much a chronic disease brought on by poor lifestyle choices, and people need to start taking responsibility for their health.

note: i'd ike to hear what you learned at your conference that you mentioned. Please explain 🙂

speaking of diabetes...I just ate 4 cookies...ill probably have it soon.

damn! if plants eat meat, then what am I doing?!?!?

So, lately I've had all sorts of wack-tacular commute times coming home from work. A lot of it is due to my schedule at work being kind of random. I get there around 8AM and leave somewhere between 4 and 7. For those of you who don't do the whole commute-to-work thing, you eventually become familiar with certain cars and memorable license plates that frequently share the road with you, like "ROTO-DR" or "DROWN" (not kidding--that was jersey--silver van on the left, not that you can read it...) or the prius with the "WWFSMD?" sticker. But anyway, Virginia's got $10 vanity tags, so everyone and his mother around here has one. Lately, and remember, it doesn't matter what time I leave, four out of five work days I see a dark green/black honda with a plate reading "teleute." And I think "hmmmmmm teleute, teleute, teleute... why does that sound familiar?" More recently, I've been thinking "Why does that remind me of The Sandman?"

Today, it finally hit me. I've been following DEATH home everyday.:scared:

I don't get the references because I'm lame but I hope you have been buckling up! Or you can spend 5 more minutes on SDN after work and hopefully never have to follow that Honda again.

Teleute is old testament greek for "death.:scared:"

Commuting can be kinda fun 🙂 I've grown to (normally) love my 40-45 minute commute. Except for the FOUR school zones I go through...

In other news, I just completed a 5.3 mile run and 20 min of yoga. Ah, I can feel the cheeseburger and fries melting away already..

My presentation is for my bioethics seminar and I need to present a topic which deals with bioethics...and not just ethics...

I did an hour (and eleven pages) on whether or not minors have a right to refuse life-sustaining (note: not life-saving) care. Neat discussion, too!

the rain here is friggin INSANE!!! (in relative terms, since it might be nothing to you guys )

ughhh i missed greys tonight! darn it I need a DVR... and poor Chubby got put on hold

With the money I appropriated for a new watch, I am going to invest in a hobby of mine: photography. I am going to buy a refurbished DSLR from Canon.

I almost miss when I had a long commute everyday. Sitting alone in the car listing to music can be so relaxing. Turn up the music so loud you can't hear your phone=😍. Although judging from many of the other drivers it seems time-in-traffic has the opposite effect on some people.

I used to commute to UCLA... it would take me 3.5 hours to get to school... and about 1.5 hours to get back...Thank God I got rear ended on the freeway and met my former roommate on the same day:laugh:

Oh and I have not gone running in about 2 weeks... I feel bad...

Evening peeps!

So Chubbs got put on hold? What exactly did he do?

how much rain, watermelon?

greys was good. private practice is amazing.

raining cats and dogs, a total downpour. we cleaned our gutters, and they still are all overflowing. i don't remember it ever raining this hard (consistently) during my lifetime. i would expect it to break some sort of regional record...

i'm inclined to say it's rainingBBQ, but i'm not sure that's how it works.
