its greys anatomy dude. coming up with pointless scenes to promote some type of dramatic effect for no reason is the plot line of the show.

(i didnt actually watch that scence...but classical music? i'm guessing with a boy and a girl.....)

yes I know... but I keep coming back for more! I can't help it. It's more like a romantic scene with a girl and a guy.

So.... I decided to cancel my Jefferson interview. I just don't really have the time, the money, or the energy to travel up to Philly to do the interview. Plus, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't choose it over some of my current acceptances.

It was tough for me to do, though, because I really liked what I saw of the school when I visited Philly last year. I hope the interview goes to someone who really wants to go there!

PS - 3 weeks and 3 days until March 2nd... everyone get nervous/anxious/excited! :scared:

Yeah, I noticed they even had the slo-mo going on.
seriously. a lil over the top greys. step up your game. I loved the hugging scenes tho. That was cute. I liked how they tried to make into this whole medical thing haha dude it's a hug!

I hope there is some love on its way for you, Chad 😀

Thank you... it's really been a roller coaster ride so far. Some days I'm convinced I'm going to be accepted, and some days I'm convinced I'm going to be rejected. I don't think I've ever wanted anything more in my life. The 5 months of waiting just makes it that much more worse.

Best of :luck:. After canceling my UAB, I feel a little roller-coaster-ish myself. I know I'm going to my #1, but it was such an honor to be invited (State schools are SOOO picky with OOsers)

I hope some WONDERFUL news comes your way very, very soon. And I'm with you about hoping someone great gets our interview spots!

Chad gets accepted to Columbia.

Ooooh I see. I bet he will be excited to finally have the letter to prove what everyone else has known all along... he's going to Columbia!

Good luck Chad (not that you need it!)

so...two more people got interview invites recently and turned them down...right?
does that mean i have to follow suit?
I just got an invitation from albany medical college like 2 minutes ago!
I don't know what do...ill be out of town for a long time.

You don't have to but do you have a gut reaction between PSU and Albany?

You certainly don't have to. If you really want to go to the school you've just gotten an interview at, take it. If you don't think you're going to go there, turn down the interview and let someone who doesn't have an acceptance yet (ideally) have the chance.

not really, no.
I need to really investigate albany now to see how it matches up with penn state.
its hard having to make these decisions about which school youd attend and deciding on interviews based off that. granted, thats how ive gotten through most of my application cycle...but, its not fun.

You guys are the best! No matter what happens, I know I can count on you guys for support and encouragement. Thanks.

Maybe BD will be back next week :xf:

I hope so. I think that we all miss him being around. Plus I really hope that he has some good news to share with us.

Yeah, it's not fun at all. At the beginning of the cycle I would have been so excited to go to Jefferson for an interview, but it's funny how my perspective has changed throughout the cycle. Sometimes it can be a hard choice. I still am not 100% sure I made the right choice in declining my interview.

Then go 🙂

Finally, an animated avatar... yay. I need to get the other site to make one later to get rid of the annoying url at the top.. but this is better. Much better.

Edit: Grrrr. It's sticking.

Hey everyone! SUNY Upstate Class of 2013 here! Can't wait to get started!

Two hours since the last post in this thread? 😱

Dr. Matt, I'm also looking into HSPS but for the air force. Their deadline to apply is in Late March, and I'm not sure where I will be headed yet, which really affects how much debt I might be in, and therefore the attractiveness of the military scholarship. If I end up going to MSU (OOS tuition ~80k), I might have to go with the three year military scholarship. It doesn't sound like a bad deal at all, you just have to be OK with not necessarily living where you want to for several years.

Not sure how their residency options work out, or how competitive those are, but I'm definitely looking into it.

ive heard many times that if one of the leading reasons that you are considering a military scholarship is the money.........then don't do it cuz youll be miserable later on. I mean I dont realy know your motivation, i'm just boucning ideas off of this post, where you hinted at total debt vs attractiveness of scholarship. Have you been talking with peope who have taken teh scholarship and are now active military? that gave me a pretty good perspective on the whole thing and i decided that it wasnt worth it for me.

For sure, that seems like the first commandment when it comes to military scholarships. I've been getting a lot of opinions but I wouldn't be applying till next year if I did decide to do it. I've always been somewhat interested in the military growing up, and fiscally, it really isn't a bad deal. Not gonna lie, finances would definitely be a big factor though...getting part of my tuition paid for through any of the scholarship programs would be much more attractive if I had to take out 350k in loans vs. 150k...

yea i feel you. Their residency options are kind of confusing, and i dont totaly understand it, but i did most of my talking with a doc in the navy...and she had been practicing on the ship for a year but still had not completed her residency. She just came straight out of med school and i guess is considered a general physician for the crewmen on the ship. And then after that stay is over she applies for a residency in whatever field she likes. I dont remember if that time before residency is mandatory, optional, or what, but its definitely an interesting/different way to go about training.

I think its optional. You can apply for a residency position within the military...and they may or may not be able to match you. If they don't match you into your field of choice (the military match day is in December) you then have the option of applying for civilian residencies, getting matched into another military one they assign you, or serving a year as a GMO (General Medical Officer?) aka Flight Surgeon in the AF. Your time as a GMO counts towards your service obligation and is often used to boost your application so you might be better able to match into your first choice specialty. That's how the Air Force recruiter explained it to me and I imagine it's similar across the various branches of the military. What I really want to know is how competitive the military residencies are compared to civilian ones..

look at me on TOP of that giant cliff/rock. Notice the rays of light beaming down on my presence? I must be something special 😀

I was asked about doing the military thing today. What I'm afraid of (and I won't be doing HPSP regardless) is the lack of "need" for physicians that completed military residencies but wanted to work in the civilian world. You're trained as a serviceman physician. The training is different, from what I understand, better suited to combat, but not inferior.

This is all heresey, btw.

Thats not the impression I received at all (and no i wasntn talkingn to a recruiter). She said one of the major benefits she saw with her colleagues is the transition from military to civilian physician life...she said military docs were heavily recruited, didnt mention a difference in the type of trianing received at a military residency compared to a civilian residency.

Just got rejected from AECOM. Yay!

My 2 cents on the military thing. I considered doing it for financial reasons but ultimately didn't want to make the extra commitment. It sounds like I would have eventually been discouraged from doing it though since I didn't have any intrinsic motivation.

i was also thinking about joining the military but i decided that it's not for me

I've never really seriously considered the military option, but from my quick glance at it; it appears the US armed services comes out on top in that deal.

They won't stop sending me crap about it either.

Hello everyone... seems like it is raining and stopping...

I had the POM frozen yogurt with raspberries, pineapples and mango at red mango, and for breakfast I had the blueberry and blackberry oatmeal at jamba juice...

I usually do not eat out too much, but I have no food at home so I am forced to... I usually bring my food homecooked from home to my apartment so I do not have to cook, but I was not able to since I came back on wednesday night straight from the airport...
