Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha, thats a shame man. My adviser is way chill. Just gotta finish up strong and enjoy the summer! We gone through over 20 and a half years of schooling...whats another two or three months. Do you know where your headed for school yet?

Looks more like UVA each day - which is awesome 😀 Need to find a place to live...

Nice! You went through the National Mall? Me = jealous. How's the weather in DC this time of year?

Oh, not today! I did on Sunday, though. The Mall is a lot longer than it feels (4500ft/leg+500ft for sidewalks at the ends assuming you take the inner path and don't include the Capitol reflecting pool or do something crazy like circle the Washington Monument)! It's starting to get into the upper 30s/low-mid40s now which I wouldn't take as a sign of spring (our weather's pretty random--it was 70-80º a couple of weeks ago and 21º this morning), except that the songbirds have started to come back (yay!). Cherry blossoms should start blooming in March for added color.😀

So! In summary!! The weather's pretty random this time of year (or all year--your choice), but I think it's starting to warm up!😀

Yeah we have the same weather in Virginia - the randomness never ceases to surprise me (80 degrees then 2 days later snow!)!

Gah, now that I know where I am going next year, I cannot wait for med school to start!

You're going to one of those movies with me, right?

it's just biking on a stationary bike, but doing with other people just makes it more fun, so when it fits in my schedule i go to the class

duh, of course! sdn2013 didn't come last night ... you better be on time!

Did you get your financial aid packages already or are you going to UTSW regardless of the package?

I have always wanted a dog, but I doubt I will be getting one next year. I won't have time to take care of one and won't be allowed to have one at any of the schools in NYC.

I have not gotten fin aid yet, but unless I get a full scholarship to a school, which is highly unlikely, might I add, I am going to UTSW... plus the tuition is awesome... 12K, and COL is low, and I really loved that school.😀

Oooooh! My first thought was "uh.....is it break dancing???" (which would also be cool).😀

Boooo!

Nice - Dallas is a really fun city! Just stay inside in the summer - whew it's hot!!!

That is what everyone tells me... I went during September, so it was not bad, but then again, I went when Ike hit, so that may have lowered the temperature a bit... Actually the rain from Hurricane Ike fell upon us since during the interview the storm moved into Dallas....

I agree whole heartedly... dogs are evil malicious creatures...😀

EDIT: Flamewar time...

:laugh::laugh:

I haven't spent much time with dogs, but I wouldn't quite say that. They can be quite endearing!

...I just love cats, s'all.

That's almost sad! I loved growing up with dogs... can't wait until I can get one!!! House training sucks though... and don't leave out your socks/shoes!

Don't get me started on cats... I'm pretty biased though as I'm pretty allergic to them!

I didn't know tuition was that low. That is great.

Don't forget that Spike beats Tom 90% of the time.

I like dogs because they are loyal and fun. The cats I've encountered have walked around the house like they own the place (not care in the least about me). That and my grandmother's cats really scratched me up when I was a kid.

They do!

Old angry cats are mean.

👍 My neighbor's cat was so mean when I was growing up... 🙁

I wish I could do this, but I don't really have time to practice enough.

edit: I am going to dance atop my desk like the guy in the vid if I get into P&S.

make sure you record it and put it up on youtube

Will do. I cannot do something that awesome and not share it with the world.😀

Interesting read for future pre-meds...

http://www.cleveland.com/medical/index.ssf/2008/10/mcat_changes_coming_more_bioch.html

Only point pertinent to us in the near future: Writing Sample has some correlation to clerkship grades....

Interesting... I knew my 14Z MCAT meant I'd be a good doctor

I do find that an intriguing correlation though... Being able to communicate effectively allows for good impression management and patient interaction. I would be surprised if the correlation was terribly high though.

I cooked something else today.

Apple crisp.

Hope it wasn't an epic fail.

The recipe looked simple enough.

But then I only used half the recommended number of apples.

...

We'll see.

Hope I used the right size pan.

And I still have all my fingers and there was no blood on any of the apples :meanie::meanie:

I didn't really study for the writing portion, and don't know if this should scare me.

The writing is teachable to an extend, but spending more than 6-10 hours on it is not effecient studying.
I made an outline for three topics and wrote up 2 full essays. Anyway, it doesn't matter because I have confidence in my communication skills.

Haha, and it sounds pretty good... I would cook today, but my mom made food for the weekend yesterday... looks like it is home made pizza for today, and Spicy Chicken Curry for tomorrow... yum...

Oh and there really should be a "yummy" emoticon on SDN, considering we talk about food kind of often... and an exercising one as well...

Random! I didn't know that writing sample was used in like anything...

YUM! Curry sounds amazing!

Could not agree more.

Same here. I generally cook myself, but I am at home and my dad, an ex-chef, always makes me great food.

We need to demand that emoticon. When it comes to letting people know that something is good an expression is worth 1000-words.

I make a mean scrambled egg sandwich... that's about the extent of my cooking skill (although I DO make some good quesadillas on the Foreman!)
It is ok, none of my roommates cook, unless you count this one guy who has followed in my footsteps.

Haha, you are in the same boat as I am. I am very slowly venturing into the world of cooking. Tentatively.

Gotta love those scrambled egg sandwiches though. So tasty.
