thats a good idea.. a general kind of "get your primary in in the summer and 2 week turnaround for secondaries?" ... but is that worth its own thread when ppl can just ask? lol
 
Hey everyone! The trip's going well - we did a half-day of medical/dental clinic today and had all kinds of interesting cases. There was this one girl who had a compound fracture a year and half ago that never healed properly, and it was gangrenous down to the bone. We had to drive her to the hospital...

Anyway, no news from Columbia still. 🙁 This is not looking good (because Priority mail would have DEFINITELY arrived by now). I'm just praying it's a waitlist and not an outright rejection. I'll be back Monday night to check in.

Hey Chad, they just ran out of priority envelopes for us. Our acceptances are coming on Monday 😛. (Hey I can TOO hope!). Oh and they started at the OTHER end of the alphabet (not alphabetical).

Ok, I'm iPod illiterate and by my post above, you might be able to figure out I just bought an iPod (its what, almost ten years since the original?). That said, when it gets here and I sync, will having an artist name and song title (in iTunes) be enough to have the music sorted. The other parts of the ID3 tag/whatever its called are not always complete. I don't have album art either. As long as I have the artist and song title am I going to have any problems?

You should be cool with just artist and song. If you have lots from one artists sometimes album title can be helpful, but you don't need it. I just use it for more organization.

I think there's some setting regarding this when you first load it. I think it has something to do with if you had different songs on IPOD vs. Itunes. I belive you have to disable automatic syncing or something for it to not delete anything. Maybe someone else can confirm this cause I can't remember for sure?

No. I know that means I'll be a terrible doctor because it means my heart's not really in it 🙄 but at that point I'd start to question my suitability for the profession. I think I have talents that could be applied in a range of fields. Also, given the attrition rate, I'd rather work on whatever's preventing me from getting into an American med school and be fully prepared for my training.

No. It was nice to have someone give me the most GENERAL of deadlines (aka, take the MCAT as a junior if you want to go to med school straight out) but anything more detailed would not have been helpful. It's such a personal decision, when to start volunteering or researching or taking pre-requisites, and I needed to do my own thinking about what I wanted to figure it out. If I'd listened to other people's reasoning about when to study for the MCAT and write my PS or start hospital volunteering I would have stressed myself out for no reason. Also, there are school-specific deadlines/recommendations and people should be going to their premed offices to get those.
 
OK, right now I'm going to go ahead and not propose the application timeline sticky since the general consensus seems to be that it would almost have to be so general as to be useless, beyond "send in everything absolutely as early as possible," which seems hardly worthy of a sticky all by itself. If anyone can think of a better way to make it or if enough other people come on to say they would want it, I'll reconsider. Just let me know if anyone has any good ideas or would really like for me to push for this (preferably by PM, since obviously I don't ready EVERY SINGLE page of this thread that I missed when I come back 😛).

I was very proud of myself for staying off SDN in the name of studying today. But I think I messed that up when I spent the least six hours hanging out with my good friend Sam Adams.
 
All of my transactions from Cancun that were charged to my CC in pesos are less than the amount I should be paying. I did a cash withdrawal for $100 but paid $86 + a $5 fee for doing so. My bill at Margaritaville is $5 less than we charged. Hmm, lol. A gift?

Shadow-A-Student was pretty uneventful. I got there around 9:30 AM and waited for him to arrive at 10. We skipped his first lecture and basically toured the gym, library, dorms, etc. and I was asking a bunch of questions. Then, I sat in on the 11 AM lecture (topic of the day was the pelvis and perineum), went to lunch, and went to anatomy lab in the afternoon before heading home. It was pretty neat, I think I'll be happy there for the next 4 years 🙂
