This particular project is much more focused on HIV related social policy issues more than clinical research...We are trying to measure the effectiveness of providing case management based services to inmates diagnosed with HIV to help with their reassimilation back in to society.

The idea is that by providing open access to these services the rate of reincarceration among this population should decrease significantly.

I've seen mice that gnawed their legs off to get out of the sticky paper traps...and it was dead not 6" from it. It was gross.

The study we're doing is just based in Baltimore - its a study of methadone maintenance treatment and a new modality they're looking into to save some money/counseling time. In Baltimore City they still dose inmates who were enrolled in methadone maintenance so I get to take field trips. Very exciting.

Baltimore is...OMG..really sad...Whenever I pass on Amtrak all I see is boarded up houses EVERYWHERE...next to JHU med!😱

That city looks like it is no joke!!!! I was only passing by but it looked really really bad. And I thought North Philly is bad (well it is...but still)

That's pretty interesting. My full-time job is actually doing health education in a substance abuse program and a bulk of it is spent with HIV-positive patients. Definitely a good thing to investigate.

Foreclosure rates are terrible in the city. It is pretty depressing. But there are much better parts of the city, away from the train tracks I assure you.

Is it that prison that is right off of I-83 to the east of the highway? Because I totally remember that. I would ride past it on the JHMI shuttle that goes between JHMI and Homewood campus every day.. nice, scenic ride for sure.

You're mainly seeing East Baltimore, which is definitely no joke. I think it's probably the worst part of the city.. I dunno about West Baltimore. They're both pretty rough. Plenty of security/cops around JHMI but you don't want to be caught outside that area after sundown. The majority of the rest of the city isn't as bad (boarded up, etc.) though.
