btw sarah, i see you joined up with AMPHL, guess who one of the "directors" (whatever that means, I'm still kind of in the dark) is! :meanie:😉

Who doesn't love a good poker game, or stint at a blackjack table? Slots are for dummies though.

Well hopefully I don't get kicked out for not being D/HH! I actually wanted to find a Deaf MD/DO to shadow or meet with to see what treatment is typically like for them, or anyone else in my shoes who wants to work with the community. Not much luck though 🙁
 
::sigh:: I just withdrew from Pitt. That one hurt... oh well there's always residency. NY here I come!

I've gambled only once. Played poker and won $500 but I doubt I'd have the same luck again, so I'm going to avoid it 😀

We have a LOT of work to do to get everything on AMPHL up to speed. The last "administration" kind of let things be. I think I'm going to use my SDN knowledge and my own personal experiences to fix up the pre-medical/medical student portion of the Physicians page/guide on the website, and try to actually flesh out the "mentors" part.. because I think those things are 110% important.

How come? Pitt didn't offer you the $$ you wanted? It's a great school, I'd have gone there over Cornell but NYC isn't my idea of a good time 😛

Hahaha, let me tell you, I am going to be the definition of class. Not only am I going to be drinking coronas before I go, but I'm pretty sure I'll be hitting up my dad for money, since he's the one taking me :laugh:

Same here... I was beginning to think I was beyond bizarre since I am not in love with NYC...

That sounds awesome. Let me know if you want any additional help with that, I definitely think with the right people in charge it can really be turned around...I've learned a lot from my job in substance abuse/health education for the Deaf over the past year too so I know more resources and have some good connections. PM/contact me (since you have my info, I guess? 😉) if you're down.

👍 I met someone from RIT last year who I believe was applying this year too, don't know if he got in anywhere and I'm not that close with him, but the more the merrier!

That's really good to know; I haven't gotten anywhere close to starting on my project b/c of the whole choosing med school + finding housing/roommate + transcripts + antibody titer stuff on top of full-time job is keeping me pretty busy, heh. I think we're planning a conference in 2011 as well, so you should come out to that.

I'm from the suburbs of NY and I've always wanted to live in the city. I passed on it for undergrad & went to Boston instead. I told myself if I have the opportunity I don't want to miss out on it again while I still can...

I just don't think Pittsburgh is the city for me right now in my life. I would be 8 hours away from my family and friends & I don't feel like going through that again. maybe later in life it will be great, but right now I want to be closer to home and my support systems

Plus, even though NYC schools are expensive, there will never EVER be another chance for me to live on the UES for $6500/year (I'm talking rent). it is impossible. that is a HUGE deal. So I'm excited to capitalize on it.

NYC is nice, but cost of living there is ridiculous.

it's included in my COA. Go on google and try to find an apartment (I mean a studio... shoot try to find a closet!) near East 69th and York in Manhattan less than $1000/month. I'm going to be in a fly apartment about 5 blocks from Central Park. It is unheard of 😀 So, even though it is crazy expensive, it is way cheaper than it would be if I was here for residency... and I'll be 15 blocks from where my Dad works 😀

yes it does! :soexcited: I've been a Cornell gurl the whole time tho so no one is really shocked. The day i got accepted my Dad came home with a Cornell sweat shirt for me and him 😀 My family is super happy.
