Houston is the second most polluted city in the nation...only behind LA

but in Houston you can actually smell the funk!!!!👎

California is the largest producer of produce in the country

California currently has one of the ten largest economies in the world

California climate varies from mediterranean to subarctic

as a new 27 year old...I must now consider investing in a walker since my physical ability will officially begin declining

I will accept a walker as a gift; however, it must be plated in platinum with emerald handles (that's my birthstone) and have "baller" inscribed on the legs.

Is it a bad sign when you can picture yourself as a grandfather one day?

 Can you express this to BD because I've been trying to explain this to him but N o o o o o o o he doesn't wanna hear it.

His old 27 year old body isn't as spry as he remembers. He needs a physical aid. Either a walker or a motorized scooter 😀

California has the largest death row population in the coutry; however guess which state is the most active in executing deathrow inmates?

Houston is the most affordable city in the US. Houston beat LA.

houston is the most affordable city in the US b/c it was built on a flood plain, has a very high population of wild animals within city limits (including poisonous snakes), and experiences some of the worst weather in the country

why is it so highly regulated?

I know one of the community HIV/AIDS agencies with whom we are conducting this research uses bupe religiously, but they dont just give it to anyone...

It has more analgesic effects than methadone but in and of itself is has less abuse potential, but it also binds stronger to opiod receptors so if someone ODs there isn't a whole lot that can be done to reverse it...treatment is also A LOT less regulated than methadone maintenance because an addict could literally just get a 30 day Rx and be told to come back in a month for more without real intervention for the addiction. Bupe is more convenient for the Rush Limbaugh-kind of addict, but not highly beneficial for the kind of drug abusers we see here.

sarah...what specifically is your role at the methadone clinic?

My full-time "real" job is as a health educator and social worker for a substance abuse treatment program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients. We are located on the same floor and just down the hall from a major alcohol and drug abuse program in Baltimore City, which is convenient for us because my program is not authorized to provide anything beyond outpatient addictions treatment, so we refer to the "separate" clinic that is two offices over. Really both programs fall under the same umbrella but for administrative purposes we are separate. I just have a crappy location for my office and the patients enrolled in the larger methadone maintenance program are irritating me this morning.

And the research I do is through the great connections my employer has with different agencies (since NIDA is in Baltimore 👍) and I can kill down time running here and there.

The coastlines of the lakes in Minnesota amount the the most shoreline of any state in the union.

God I hate my job sometimes.

Nothing like a 50+ person line at a methadone clinic, starting right outside my office door. FML.

When I first read this, I thought it meant that the people in line for the methadone clinic were over the age of 50

In Spain, it is common to pour chocolate milk on cereal for breakfast.

They should just eat Cocoa Krispies and save themselves the trouble.

I see we're being educational again, riceman.

Do you want to work with the deaf population as a physician?

If so...you know there is a huge def population up in Rochester, NY. U. Rochester has a pretty awesome program for med students and residents interested in working with deaf populations

American Airlines maintains hubs in:

1. Los Angeles
2. Dallas-DFW

:laugh::laugh:

Yes, I know. Except I didn't even get an interview with Rochester and my numbers aren't too far below their averages despite my long history in working with the Deaf. So I'm a little bitter about that. That, and though I applaud them for said program, they can't really teach their med students ASL in the matter of a year (on top of their basic curriculum without an added year of schooling) to the point where they would be fully capable of working with the different degrees of communication levels in the Deaf community on their own.

Rochester has the largest Deaf population per capita in the entire US, so I am looking to at the very least do an audition rotation there and would definitely be happy as a resident in Rochester. I'm thinking about emergency medicine primarily because I feel that would be the most effective (and personally enjoyable) use of my ASL skills if I live in an area with a significant Deaf population. One good thing NYMC had going for it (and why I'm glad I got in) is that they have a school for the Deaf right down the road so that means I'll have a decent amount of exposure and interaction throughout med school.

yeppppppp 👍...not far from Lake Tahoe...

Yo Sarah...you and your bf should go camping in the Lake Tahoe area...it is beautiful

Duly noted, we're trying to figure out good places. We want to go climbing too so that looks like a good place!
