Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got about a 4 dollar/hr raise today, and I also saved a drowning kid, hahaha...very eventful day.

Wow, nice job Chubbs!

I can finally join this thread now! Officially a member of the Class of 2013! I'm so excited.. im gonna be a doctor! 😀😀😀:soexcited::banana:

Congrats!

I usually smell like "amber romance" from victoria's secret mixed with possibly some warm vanilla sugar/vanilla noir bath and body works or celine dion "enchanted".

(basks in OMBD's aroma)

I was in pink boxers and somehow lost my shirt 30 minutes into it....one guy was in a thong..all the girls except one where in man boxers.

One guy had a superman cape...and one girl refused to remove her pants (thank god though).

:roflcopter:

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Man, you would've HATED living in Baltimore then

 It actually did start raining when I was in Baltimore, and my suit got wet. But it was nothing compared to Hurricane Ike when it hit Dallas during my UTSW interview... then my suit got drenched...

I just find it odd, since I am not used to rain at all.

So is it a really bad idea to buy a home during med school? I found a nice condo for about 90K... which is not too bad...plus, if I have a roommate, I can help him pay it off by charging rent:laugh:

No, not at all, my friend did that down in the ATL (sorry funky I mean Atlanta :meanie::laugh:) near Emory.

Are you planning on staying up in the BIG D for a while?

Hasn't that market up there been saturated with condos? And won't that make it that much more difficult to re-sale a piece of property that has, historically, always had a poor re-sale value?

i can't believe it doesn't rain in SoCal... that's crazy

Boston has made me hate rain :annoyed:

I know ATL means Atlanta...

Oh and I figure that if I cannot sell it, I can always rent it out to future med students and make some money that way😕
And I am not sure how long I will stay in Dallas though, but if I do get TX residency, then I could get an extra 5k grant which would make the tuition even less 😀

EDIT: TOP!

yep we NORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMALLY have a wet season and a dry season. But I think I brought all the bad weather home with me.

You can thank me funky for these wonderful last few days 🙄

And now I am headed back to more rain...🙁

I've only gambled once in my life, which was when I realized how much I love the bonuses they have on poker and won $250 but I'm too scared to go back for fear of losing that much money 😱 I don't think I have a lot of impulse control because I'm the kind of person who would pull the "one more hand to see if my luck changes" about 50x.

Maybe I'll try my luck at Blackjack. That was in Atlantic City though. And I lovedddd the free drinks 👍

I personally wouldn't buy a condo. Renting out when you're in residency too and waiting to sell when the value goes up sounds like a huge PITA

not sure why you are so :scared:...you gamble with your life everyday living in Bmore :meanie:

:laugh::laugh::laugh: True, true.

I thought AC was overrated...I mean afterall, it IS in Jersey. :meanie:
But I still had fun.

It generally doesn't which is why the wildfires are so bad here.

I could always just keep it ad rent it out, and plus since my COA is less than most people, I was hoping it is not too bad...

Well, they did just re-examine the murder rankings, and Detroit is actually back at #1 because they didn't count 15 or some odd number of murders.

😀

Also is Jamaica Plain da hood?

beantown here I come😡

I don't get in until 11pm
ooo that's late. Have a safe flight Rice.

I need to wake up and go to the gym....... any second now.....

I hope it does not rain during graduation/ commencement...

i'm confused... was this planned? or did eminem have no idea?

He said he was in on it.

Hello everyone! What have I missed?

I'd like to know this too. My school doesn't have one but I wish it did because I would like to move in early.

Now a related question, how many of you need to get CPR certifications or other such things before matriculation?

DS has that requirement. I got certified back in March.

I'm so glad PandaBearMD is back to blogging:

“Vicodin doesn’t even touch my pain.”

“I’m sorry. That’s all I’m going to prescribe.”

“Can you give me a ’scrip for my Methadone?”

“No.”

“Well, how ’bout a shot of somethin’ before I go?”

“No.”

“Aw, man. F*** you. I want to speak to the manager.”

“Sir, this is not the International House of Pancakes

FTW!

LoL rookies... I've been wearing contacts for 11 years

I've had glasses since 1st grade
🙁

4th grade for me.

I'm painting a ceramic turtle . . . thought you guys should kno

I painted a ceramic pig that I now use for a piggy bank. I gave him a moderately offensive Jewish name though 😛

feel incredible to finally earn the privilege to post on this thread 😍

Congrats Nancy!

I wonder why there is a difference between graduation and commencement. The college of Letters and Sciences has a commencement, while the Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (yeah my major is a mouthful which is why everyone says MIMG) has a graduation.

3 days of graduation stuff... I kind of wish it were all on one day... rather than spread out over three...

Woohoo! 6000! Which is also how much 1 semester's worth of tuition is at UTSW😀

haha there are def some hood areas in JP... but if you can handle Philly than JP should be a walk in the park.

Hmm the T closes around 12 so you would be cutting it pretty close. I think the best way would be to take the taxi to be 100% honest. That would be the safest and the quickest way. Logan is kind of far from everything and you have to go from bus to train to another train to get to JP 🙁

Now, I need to go to the library and study... Only 6 more days!

the craziest thing about Boston is that, while their hood areas are predominantly Black (it's one of the most segregated cities I've ever seen), there are a lot of White people there too! And they are Ol Gs man. I don't mess with them.

I volunteered in a rehab center for two years & I would sit in on their groups and take them out for walks. Almost all of the people in the rehab were white! It's not like that here in NY!

Its predominantly Black here...and white people acting like they are

when I lived in NYC, I found it to be somewhat segregated (but not awkwardly). I think when you have that many people and that many diverse groups, people tend to select themselves out to their own. I find Philly to be a lot less segregated (but less diverse - either white/black).

ok off to the gym! laterz

ok well at least I know I did not miss anything when I did my research on how to get to JP from Logan

get a good one in while I sit watching movies on the plane

that's right...all of Continental's boeing 757-200's have been outfitted with the latest entertainment system at every seat...I don't have to watch what everyone else is watching.

So I think this time next year..2014 will easily have more posts then us...they got a head start.

Yeah, probably. It's ok though. We'll be too busy to care at that point 😛

I know why I'm not asleep. Damn jet lag! I went to bed at 9 and woke up at 2am and am wide awake. Gah! 😡

I was pretty jet-lagged yesterday, hopefully I can get back on schedule tonight.

Dude, that game's been around forever! I remember that from junior year of high school. Revisited today and maxed out at 438

QUestion what is considered moderate alcohol intake...LIke i know its 2 drinks a day....but i get drunk pretty much once a week...and i probably drink 12-14 that night....is that considered moderate?

The reason i ask is because im pre-hypertensive and i cant figure out why. I workout alot, im a heatlhy weight, im young, theres not much of a familial history, and i eat healthy...so imt rying to figure it out.

Definitely not. If anything, binge drinking 14 one night per week is significantly WORSE than 2 a day.

did anybody make the crack about blamin it on the a-a-a-alcohol, yet? 🙄
just poppin' in here to say hello to everyone! I've been MIA as of late...but June looks very boring and if I don't start reading books in my downtime, I might be on here a bit more often.
btw, is House of God worth the read?

I read that on the plane and liked the first half. You should probably read it anyway just to say that you did.

Wow... I just got accepted off of my only waitlist (WashU) out of all my interviews. I can hardly believe this is actually happening!

Congrats smash!

I can't stand people who try to talk to me at the gym. It's the one place where I am strictly anti-social. I don't even like running with people. Work out time is alone time !

Yup, I don't want people to see me all sweaty and gross and trying to catch my breath. Not exactly a flattering image 😛

Wow UCLA spam filter really sucks

Oh and my professor has not put up the answer key to the problem set

Oh well, I am listening to Guster, so that makes everything better...

"When we all had finally washed ashore..."

Did yall hear about the little boy with selective mutism who had never spoken... but became vocal watching Magic play?

Selective mutism is fascinating. I did an internship one summer just studying those kids. It takes a lot of intensive therapy to break the cycle 🙁

support the underdog. GOOOOOOOOO MAGIC

I wanted the Cavs to win, so I'm supporting the Lakers as retaliation.

Nice to see you too rice 🙂

Yeah, you can't have that mentality when you go into casinos. People there are such loose players, they'll call $20 pre-flop raises with 5,6 off-suit and crack your aces with a runner, runner flush 😡
