question for yall..this might be best for DrizzT, but others may know as well.

Do we have to know all the structures of the amino acids for med school?? I Used to know them, but for some damn reason I cant get them to stick.

I'm pretty sure this is a yes. I have the same problem, memorized and forgotten them on two separate occasions.

nope....i really dont have anything planned till Austin in about a week and a half!

I just got home from a very hectic weekend. Friend's bday on Friday, crazy 4th of July celebration yesterday (300+ people with live band and fireworks at my friend's house down on the Jersey shore) and lazy beach day today. I'm officially pooped 😴

I'm finishing up a book on the history of our med school. its pretty cool.

first lung and heart transplants were done at University of Mississippi. I read about Dr. Hardy and them last night.

On my way to the class, I called and they were calling at the same time Turns out my registration form was there...and glad for it! We took our picture ids and got our IT accounts set up before everyone 😱🙂

I guess it depends on the school? We were told today we did not need to know the structures, but we will have to know if they are either hydrophobic, hydrophilic, etc.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. Makes being top 10% of the class feel that much more unattainable...

The dean told us that TCOM's board scores on the COMLEX came out today, and for the fourth year running they were the highest in the nation. That's no pressure.

And he was pretty blunt, in the sense that he said "There are over 180 of you. You will not be in the top 10%. Bank on that. If you're in the middle of the group you are doing pretty well." And then he started talking about all this data (apparently TCOM is data crazy and they track EVERYTHING) and people who study at least 40 hours a week, OUTSIDE of class time, are the ones who are in the top part of the class. Then to increase 5%, you have to add an average of 10 hours. to med school, I guess? 😛

mr. ar and I went out to this really nic epizza place in the neighborhood and as we were leaving i saw a bunch of students/doctors from NYU - Bellevue waiting for a table in their white coats.. hehe i got so excited thinking that soon we will be students!!

just had a brain wave - I bet my small grade insomnia is due to the prednisone I had for my shot reaction.

If I get one good case of pneumonia first year that causes 3 weeks of prednisone, i'll be set on not needing sleep. ha.

Biochem, it is our first block. We have to review a bunch of structures, amino acids, a gang of pathways(starting materials and pdts) and drugs and what enzymes they inhibit. Not too bad, but thats because I pretty much did all of that during my pre-mat program.

wow first block already? i forget how different the schedules can be at some schools. I only start orientation on aug 25th and classes on aug 31.

We haven't started classes yet. I am at home in LA. We start on July 22nd(orientation) and classes start on the 29th. This homework is their way of getting our minds back on track.
