Class of 2013!!!

No one warned me that it was going to be this hot in Seattle! 😡

It's funny all the weird differences between med schools. I start pre-orientation Aug 3rd, real orientation Aug 9th, and classes Aug 17th.

Just found out that my bff, who started med school in Ecuador this summer, takes the Step I next year! 😱 I'm half-jealous, because I guess it means she gets three years of clinical stuff instead of two. (Her med school is really 6 years, but you're supposed to start straight out of high school and she went to college first, so she's skipping the first two years of basic science-y stuff; the classes she took this summer were to make up for some of the stuff she didn't cover in undergrad).

Still trying to think of a blog name. I kind of like the sound of Third Culture Doctor (a play on the term "Third Culture Kid"), but I'm not going to be a doctor for four years so it feels presumptuous to have doctor in the title till I actually am one. I guess I could do Third Culture Doctor To Be? Back to the drawing table.

On the other hand, my older brother (resident now) has used the username dr initial intial last name since he was in high school. :laugh:

I got the routine service for my car, since we will be driving it there, but the toyota people wanted me to get this extra stuff that would cost an additional 900 bucks. I was not sure if I was getting taken advantage so I just said no, but now I am wondering whether that was a wise choice...

but then again UCSD is notorious for being out of control crazy hard...we will see!!!

and when i say that I am not implying any med school is easy

The rain will be minimal this week, it says 40% but it was just cloudy today 🙂 The humidity will get you though.....

Really?? I heard it was a cupcake school...kind of like the community college of med schools😉😛..

btw im not fooling myself into thinking im getting AOA haha.

Basically refers to kids initially from one culture but raised in at least one other, who don't really feel a part of either culture so they feel like they're a part of a third culture that's a mix of the others. My parents are from Ghana and I was born in the US, but moved to Ghana when I was 4, then back to the US when I was 14. Both places feel like home but I also feel like an outsider too.

Yeah, it seems like this is fairly unusual. Everyone seems to be surprised by the heat. Yesterday when I went to Bed Bath and Beyond, they had a ton of fans. Today, I had to buy a display model because they were nearly out!

Yeah, if I can get to High Pass level, I'll be golden. Honors would be icing on the cake, but I'm realistic.

That's so awesome BD. Can't say I'm surprised, you have President written all over you. I'll be curious to see if any others in our group will obtain similar positions.

I am also going to attempt to attend as many lectures as possible. Personally, I prefer to attend lecture. Some classes in undergrad I was one of very few who were left standing towards the end of semester.

I begin my road trip to New York a moth from today! Moving sucks. 👎

Hey Yoda! Nice to see someone is around 🙂. Im gonna go to bed though, this 2 hr time difference is really getting to me. Tomorrow I shall finish setting up my dresser, unpack my clothes, and meet up with the only person I know in all of Iowa :laugh:. Then I shall grab some wings with my newfound DMU pals. Gotta get all this CH3CH2OH in while I still can right? 😀

I logged into blackboard, and I'm enrolled in a real class now! :soexcited:

Histology it is. I have a partial syllabus and few assignment type things listed, so if I get toooo bored these last few days I can at least do some productive reading.

I think the rain has stopped for now. I might wander out.

It's easy to forget how many little things need to be installed 😳
 
I dreamed last night that I got a bunch of med school emails this morning, including who my Big Sib is. I was very sad to realize it was a dream. 🙁

My big sibling is being a total slacker. Everyone else has gotten books from theirs or at least some nifty advice. I'm gonna find the list and start harassing them.
